iTEP Global Placement is designed to fit the specific needs of any international English language or Intensive English Program (IEP). The test is delivered online and includes tasks targeting beginner to advanced levels of English proficiency to fit diverse program levels. As with all other iTEP exams, iTEP Global Placement is aligned with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR), and score reports provide a level designation from A1 – C2. iTEP International staff works with clients to align iTEP to existing program levels.

In each section, examinees will encounter content and questions targeted to varying levels of proficiency.

A Grammar — 4 minutes/ one partTen fill-in-the-blank, multiple-choice questions testing the examinee’s familiarity with a key feature of English structure; questions range from beginner to advanced.

B Listening — 2 minutes/ two partsPart 1 Six high-beginning to low-intermediate level short conversations of two to three sentences, each

followed by one multiple-choice question.Part 2 One two-to three minute intermediate level conversation, followed by four multiple-choice

questions.

C Vocabulary — 4 minutes/ two partsPart 1 Five fi ll-in-the-blank, multiple-choice questions. Part 2 Four multiple-choice questions testing the examinee’s familiarity with synonyms.

D Reading — 17 minutes/ two partsPart 1 One low-intermediate level passage (160 words) followed by four multiple-choice questions.Part 2 One upper-level passage (450 words) followed by six multiple choice questions.

6.0 Listening Comprehends overall meaning and virtually all details of lectures on diverse topics.Understands English spoken in a variety of non-native accents.

6.0 Vocabulary Vocabulary range allows for nuanced expression and comprehension of abstract meaning.Able to operate fully at an academic level.

4.5 Reading Utilizes contextual and syntactic clues to interpret meaning of complex sentences and newvocabulary. Gathers most main ideas from textbooks and articles, but has an uneven graspof details. Misinterprets some abstract content and cultural references.
