A village of 3500 artists All our facilities are on a single campus, which makes it a very friendly and welcoming place. Not only is it home to the workshops, spaces and lecture halls where you’ll study, it’s where you’ll eat, drink and make friends.

There’s always something happening: an exhibition, a DJ playing outside, a live performance or a charitable fundraiser. To inspire you further we’ve got a gallery, a museum and an incredibly well-stocked library.

Our students can use many of the

facilities at neighbouring Bournemouth

University too: more restaurants,

a well-equipped gym and sports hall,

For example Acting students are auditioned to act in films produced by Film students and may be supported by the Costume and Make-Up courses for costumes and styling. Animation students often work with Modelmaking students to produce three dimensional animated films. Photography students are also involved in photographing fashion collections and catwalk shows.

We believe we’re stronger

when we’re connected Working together to achieve more is the philosophy behind much of our teaching. We know that in their careers, our students will work with people from many disciplines, so it’s important to start doing that while they are learning.

We believe in celebrating success

Our Graduation Day is an opportunity for families to celebrate the students’ academic success in a uniquely English setting.

The ceremony takes place in the historic church of Wimborne Minster, a beautiful gothic building that’s over 1000 years’ old. The Minster has been a place of learning since 705 and Henry VII’s queen founded a school here in 1497. The organ played during the ceremony is almost 400 years old.

The presentations are made by the Chairman of the University, accompanied by the county High Sheriff, a representative of the Queen or the Lord Lieutenant of Dorset. Mayors from five neighbouring towns will be there too.

The celebrations continue back at the University where studios form a graduate showcase of final year work. You’ll have the chance to talk to tutors and celebrate more English tradition with champagne, strawberries and cream in the University gardens.

Wolfgang Tillmans, the internationally

renowned photographer studied

photography before going on to win

the prestigious Turner Prize in 2000.

Simon Beaufoy, studied film before

going on to write the screenplay for the

film ‘Slumdog Millionaire’, which won

an OSCAR for Best Adapted Screenplay

at the Academy Awards in Hollywood

in 2009.

Pre-Degree Courses

Why limit your choices?

If you love being creative, it can be hard to decide which subject you’d like to specialise in. So don’t decide. Our Pre-Degree courses give you a chance to explore different creative areas before choosing the subject you want to take a degree in. Or simply enjoy a year of being creative before moving on to something else.

Our courses give you the benefit of studying on a campus that is dedicated to the arts. You’ll use the same facilities our degree students use. You’ll be able to mix with them and find out what they like about the course – and you can speak to their tutors about your next step.

Prepared for university, in the UK and overseas

The courses prepare you for degree study at any university, anywhere in the world. We guarantee any international students who successfully complete a Pre-Degree course, a place on an Arts University degree in their specialist area.

Animation Production MA

This MA in Animation Production allows students with a degree in animation or a related subject, to take their skills and knowledge to the next level. We’ll show you how to refine and invigorate your working practices in animation. You’ll be able to specialise more and really hone your abilities through the production of a film or body of animation work.  aub.ac.uk/maan

Who is it for?The MA is a chance for students to pursue specialist interests in animation. Most of our students already have animation skills or a degree in a related subject such as Digital Media, Graphics, or Illustration. We will consider good graduates from other disciplines, but a good understanding of the animation production process is essential.

AUB has a terrific reputation as a place to study animation. As well as the latest facilities in our studios, we also have an outpost of Europe’s largest special effects production house, Framestore, on campus.

As well as benefitting from the wide range of skills and interests in our strong course team, you’ll also learn from Visiting Tutors and industry specialists. Recent visitors include award-winning animators Bill Plympton, Barry Purves, Joanna Quinn and Suzie Templeton.

Design Interactions

Design is no longer just about tangible objects; it covers every aspect of human activity. Our new MA in Design Interaction develops designers’ ability to help people navigate a whole range of different activities. By exploring how to balance the needs of businesses and users, the course broadens designers’ skills in meeting the challenges of converging communication, functionality, and task and system-based thinking.

MA

This course provides a creative and well- supported space where designers from different disciplines can work together to experience, challenge and test ideas that blur the boundaries between product and interaction.

Students will explore an increasingly connected world, including the networking of products, and the interactions between products and users. They will investigate social need, cultural and environmental impact and how radical creative thinking helps them deliver real world solutions.

Who’s it for? Design Interactions is the logical step up for people with a background in design or media who want to broaden their horizons and open up new career opportunities in an increasingly connected world. If you have experience in product design, graphic design, new media or web design, this MA will stretch your thinking and give you a fresh perspective on design.

How to make a direct applicationTo make a direct application you will need to complete an online application form on our website aub.ac.uk/apply Please note that the International Office only processes International applications and EU students should apply through UCAS.

How to apply through UCASUCAS is the UK’s Universities and CollegesAdmissions Service. All students whether British or from overseas can apply to any Higher Education course (BA) through this system. Some of the benefits to you are:

• All colleges and universities that are in the UCAS scheme are recognised by the UK Government or offer courses that are validated by UK Government- recognised universities.

• UCAS can give you comprehensive, impartial and up-to-date information on Higher Education courses and universities and colleges.

• ‘Apply’ is a secure, web-based application system which is available 24 hours a day, giving you the flexibility to fill in your application where and when it suits you.

• You need only fill in one online application form to apply for up to five different courses at one or more universities or colleges.

Most of the degree courses at the Universityare very popular and there are a limited number of places available for international students on each course so it is important to apply early. If you are interested in applying to the University please contact the International Office immediately to check on availability of places.

UCAS application process To apply, log on to www.ucas.com and then click the apply button. If you have any issues or questions, refer to the UCAS website or telephone UCAS customer service unit on +44 (0) 871 468 0468

The information on your UCAS form is used toinform decisions taken about your application.Make sure you include all qualifications that you have and any qualifications that you are currently taking. Selection processCandidates for all courses are assessed on their portfolio of creative work, academic achievements, English language level and commitment to the subject. It is therefore very important that you put together a portfolio of your artwork as we cannot accept students on qualifications alone (with a small number of exceptions).

InterviewInterviews are an opportunity for you to demonstrate your self-motivation and commitment to a chosen area of study, to discuss aspects of the course andto ask any questions that you may have.

If you are selected for interview you will be notified via ‘My Application’ with details of your interview. Interviews normally take place between late December and May.

For most courses, you will be required to bring a portfolio of work as part of your interview and you will be sent a specific portfolio guidance sheet with your invitation to interview via ‘My Application’.

As a general guide, portfolios should contain examples of work (both finished and work in progress) that showcase your particular skills and interests. The content of a portfolio should be presented in a logical, ordered and simple fashion.

Portfolio guidelines vary according to the course you are interested in. Please refer to the ‘Interviews and Portfolios’ section for the course you are interested in on our website for detailed advice.

Please note that due to the high number of applications that we receive we are unable to return any individual portfolios so please do not send any work that cannot be replaced.

Attending an InterviewIf you are living overseas but are temporarily in the UK and are able to attend an interview, then a date can be set to suit your arrangements. Please contact the International Office well in advance of your visit and ensure that you have completed your application form.

We recognise that it may not be possible for you to attend an interview at the University or at one of the education fairs that we attend each year in various countries. In such cases we will accept a postal application and may require a telephone or Skype interview.

Sending your Portfolio by Post It is advisable to prepare your portfolio well in advance so that you have one ready when you receive your portfolio request by email. You can refer to the courses section on our website to download the specific portfolio requirements for your chosen course.
