SPECIALABILITIES(UNIFIED&TRADITIONAL)ROUTINE&GAMEDAYDIVISIONSRULES®ULATIONS
I. ALLDIVISIONS-GENERALSAFETYRULES&
ROUTINEREQUIREMENTSA. Allathletesmustbesupervisedduringallofficial
functionsbyaqualifieddirector/coach.B. Coachesmustrequireproficiencybeforeskill
progression.Coachesmustconsidertheathlete,groupandteamskilllevelswithregardtoproperperformancelevelplacement.
C. Allteams,coachesanddirectorsmusthaveanemergencyresponseplanintheeventofaninjury.
D. Athletesandcoachesmaynotbeundertheinfluenceofalcohol,narcotics,performance-enhancingsubstancesorover-the-countermedicationsthatwouldhindertheabilitytosuperviseorexecutearoutinesafely,whileparticipatinginapracticeorperformance.
E. Athletesmustalwayspracticeandperformonanappropriatesurface.Technicalskills(stunts,pyramids,tossesortumbling)maynotbeperformedonconcrete,asphalt,wetorunevensurfacesor,surfaceswithobstructions.
F. Soft-soledshoesmustbewornwhilecompeting.Nodanceshoes/boots,and/orgymnasticsslippers(orsimilar)allowed.Shoesmusthaveasolidsole.
G. Jewelryofanykind,includingbutnotlimitedto,ear,nose,tongue,bellybuttonandfacialrings,clearplasticjewelry,bracelets,necklacesandpinsonuniformsisnotallowed.Jewelrymustberemovedandmaynotbetapedover.Exception:medicalIDtags/bracelets.Clarification:Rhinestonesareallowedwhenadheredtotheuniformandnotallowedifadheredtotheskin.
H. Anyheightincreasingapparatususedtopropelanathleteisnotallowed.Exception:springfloor.
I. Flags,banners,signs,poms,megaphonesandpiecesofclotharetheonlypropsallowedException:SpecialAbilityAthletemobility/supportdevices).Propswithpolesorsimilarsupportapparatusmaynotbeusedinconjunctionwithanykindofstuntortumbling.Allpropsmustbesafelydiscardedoutofharmsway(example:throwingahardsignacrossthematfromastuntisnotallowed).Anyuniformpiecepurposefullyremovedfromthebodyandusedforvisualeffectwillbeconsideredaproponceitisremovedfromthebody.
J. Supports,bracesandsoftcaststhatareunalteredfromthemanufacturer’soriginaldesign/productiondonotrequireadditionalpadding.Supports,bracesandsoftcaststhathavebeenalteredfromthemanufacturer’soriginaldesign/productionmustbepaddedwithaclosed-cell,slow-recoveryfoampaddingnolessthan½inch/1.27centimetersthickiftheparticipantisinvolvedinstuntsorpyramids.Aparticipantwearingahardcast(example:fiberglassorplaster)orawalkingbootmustnotbeinvolvedinstunts,orpyramids.Exception:WithintheICUSpecialAbilitiesDivisions,mobileassistanceandsupportdevicesinusetoassisttheathlete-areconsideredpartoftheathlete.Inthesecases,ArticleI.Jdoesnotapply.
K. Fromalevelgridstandpoint-allskillsallowedforataparticularlevelencompassallskillsallowedintheprecedinglevels.
L. Requiredspottersforallskillsmustbeyourownteam’smembers,andbetrainedinproperspottingtechniques.
M. Dropsincludingbutnotlimitedtoknee,seat,thigh,front,backandsplitdropsfromajump,stunt,orinvertedpositionarenotallowedunlessthemajorityoftheweightisfirstborneonthehandsorfeet,whichbreakstheimpactofthedrop.Shushinovasareallowed.Clarification:Dropsthatincludeanyweightbearingcontactwiththehandsandfeetarenotinclearviolationofthisrule.
N. Athletesmusthaveatleastonefoot,handorbodypart(otherthanhair)ontheperformingsurfacewhentheroutinebegins.Exception:Athletesmayhavetheirfeetinthehandsofbase(s)ifthebase(s)handsarerestingontheperformingsurface.
O. Thecompetitorswhobeginaroutinemustremainthesamethroughoutthecourseofaroutine.Aperformerisnotpermittedtobe“replaced”byanotherperformerduringaroutine.
P. Anathletemustnothavegum,candy,coughdropsorothersuchedibleornon-edibleitems,whichmaycausechoking,inher/hismouthduringpracticeand/orperformance.

Q. ForpurposesofpromotionofinternationalsportandtheglobalimageofCheer,athletesarerecommendedtocompeteinattirethatdoesnotintentionallyexposethemidriff/mid-sectionoftheathlete’sbodywhiletheathleteisinastandingposition.Forthepurposesofawareness,thisisonlyanICUrecommendationfor2019.
II. ICUSPECIALABILITIESDIVISIONS-SPECIFICRULES&ROUTINEREQUIREMENTSSPECIFICDIVISIONCRITERIA
A. AllICUgeneralrulesandguidelines,aswellasroutinerequirementsapply.
B. AllSpecialAbilities“Unified”Teamsstandardcriteriaisateamcomprisedofaminimum50%ormoreAthleteswithintellectualdisabilities.Clarification:BasedonthedevelopmentofSpecialAbilitiesTeamprogrammesinarespectivecountry,regionorlocalarea,thispercentagemaybeadjusted(higherorlower)tothediscretionofthelocaleventorganizertoencourageSpecialAbilitiesprogrammedevelopment.TheICUendorsesa50%+teamcompositionforallSpecialAbilityUnifiedTeams;however,theICUrecognizesthepotentialneedtoadjustthispercentagetoencouragegrass-rootsgrowthofSpecialAbilitiesprogrammesworldwide.
C. AllSpecialAbilities“Traditional”Teamsmustbecomprisedof100%Athleteswithintellectualdisabilities.
D. AllStuntsandPyramids-atpreplevelorabove-willrequirethespotofaCoachorAssistantforsafetypurposes.ShouldtheCoachorAssistantassistintheskill,directlyorindirectly(forsafetyreasons)whilespottingtheskill,areducedpointvaluewillbereflectedintheteamscorefortherespectivescoresheetcategorybasedonthelevelofassistanceprovided.
E. Tossesarenotallowed.F. Spottedandassistedtumblingisnotallowedin
Competition;however,spottedandassistedtumblingisallowedinExhibitionperformances.
G. Uptothree(3)Coach(es)and/orAssistant(s)areallowedtosignalfromthefrontofthematandmaynotobstructtheviewofthejudges.Additionally,thereisnolimittothenumberofAssistantsaroundtheperimeterofthefloorinasquatposition.
H. AssistantsshallbedressedincontrastingattirecomparedtotheAthletes,soitiscleartothejudges
whoaretheAthletesandwhoaretheAssistantsontheflooratanytime.Forexample,Assistantsshallwearadarkt-shirtandpantsincontrasttotheAthletes’lightercoloreduniform(orviceversa);however,AssistantsmaynotwearaCheerleadingorPerformanceCheeruniformduringtheroutine.
I. Assistantsshallwearathleticshoes(e.g.noflip-flops)andshallnotwearanyjewelryfortheprotectionoftheAthletes.
J. SpecialAbilityUnifiedTeamsOnly:SkilldifficultyperformedbyaUnifiedPartnerwithinaspecificscoresheetcategory(e.g.tumbling,partnerstunts,pyramids,etc.)mustnotexceedthedifficultyofacomparableskilloraskillwithinthesamescoresheetcategoryperformedbyanathletewithanintellectualdisability,unlessanathletewithanintellectualdisabilityispartoftheskill(e.g.apartnerstuntgroup,pyramid,etc.),andcompliantwiththerulescontainedherein.
III.SPECIALABILITIES(UNIFIED&TRADITIONAL)
INTRODUCTORYDIVISION/(NON-BUILDING&NON-TUMBLING)PRE-LEVEL0RULES
SPECIALABILITIES(UNIFIED&TRADITIONAL)INTRODUCTORYDIVISIONGENERAL&STANDING/RUNNINGTUMBLINGA. AllTumblingskillsarenotallowed.
Exception:Jumps(seeVIII.GLOSSARYOFTERMS“Jump”)areallowed.
SPECIALABILITIES(UNIFIED&TRADITIONAL)INTRODUCTORYDIVISIONSTUNTS,PYRAMIDS&DISMOUNTSA. StuntsandPyramids,andthereforeDismountsand
anybuildingofanykind,arenotallowed.SPECIALABILITIES(UNIFIED&TRADITIONAL)INTRODUCTORYDIVISIONTOSSESA. Tossesarenotallowed.
Clarification1:Thisincludes“Sponge”(alsoknownas“LoadIns”or“Squish”)tosses.

performingsurface.Clarification:Atumblermayreboundfromhis/herfeetintoastunttransition.ForrelevantDivisions,ifthereboundfromthetumblingpassinvolveship-over-headrotation,thenthetumbler/toppersonmustbecaughtandstoppedinanon-invertedpositionbeforecontinuingintothehip-over-headtransitionorstunt.Example:RoundoffhandspringandthenabumporcontactfromabaseorbracerstraightintoabackflipwouldbreakthisrulefortheBeginner/L0–Elite/L5Divisions.Aclearseparationfromthetumblingtothestuntisneededtomakethislegal.Catchingthereboundandthendippingtocreatethethrowfortherotationislegal.Thiswouldalsobetrueifcomingfromjustastandingbackhandspringwithouttheroundoff.

B. Tumblingover,under,orthroughastunt,individual,orpropisnotallowed.Clarification:Anindividualmayjumpover(rebound)anotherindividual.
C. Tumblingwhileholdingorincontactwithanypropisnotallowed.
D. Diverollsarenotallowed:E. Jumpsarenotconsideredatumblingskillfroma
legalitiespointofview.Therefore,ifajumpskillisincludedinatumblingpass,thejumpwillbreakupthepass.

Example:Thighstands,groundstunts,kneestunts(e.g.akneetabletop)areexamplesofstuntsabovegroundlevel.
Clarification:Thespottermaygrabthetopperson’swaistforallstuntsabovegroundlevel.
B. StuntLevels:1. Singleleg,2legandallstuntsareonlyallowed
atwaistlevelifthetoppersonisconnectedtosomeonestandingontheperformancesurface(e.g.spottergrabbingthewaistofthetopperson,ahand/armconnection,etc.),whichmustbeaseparatepersonotherthanthebase(s)orspotter.
2. Stuntsabovewaistlevelarenotallowed.Astuntmaynotpassabovewaistlevel.Clarification1:Takingthetoppersonabovethewaistlevelofthebasesisnotallowed.
C. Twistingstuntsandtransitionsarenotallowed.Clarification1:Reboundingtoaproneposition(½twisttostomach)isastuntallowedintheSpecialAbilities(Unified&Traditional)BeginnerDivision.
D. Duringtransitions,atleastonebasemustremainincontactwiththeothertopperson.Exception:LeapfrogsandleapfrogvariationsarenotallowedintheSpecialAbilities(Unified&Traditional)BeginnerDivision.
