The course presents the entire history of art, from prehistory to the present day in the form of rounded historical, cultural and stylistic formations and their historical sequence, interconnection and dependence and their intersections with the key ideas and the events of simultaneous historical happening. It focuses on painting, sculpture and architecture, and simultaneously, in the treatment of modern history, pays adequate attention to design, industrial and graphic design and photography and also points to the mutual intertwining of these areas and the traditional art genres, and discusses the theory.

Course title: Studio I. – Spatial architecture Lecturer: viš. pred. mag. Jasna Kralj Pavlovec CONTENT: Studio work is composed of individual topic blocks, with the emphasis on independent creation and the design of impermanent, mobile environments, which are the consequence of the interaction between users and space and technology and space. The fundamental premise is the control of the functions and importance of space elements and equipment; and informing about the placement of these elements in different ambiences. The laws of composition are introduced in the design of individual equipment families as well as individual spaces and their affiliation in a broader context. We present a series of possible approaches and composition methods, and design of mobile and fixed equipment. Students are acquainted within lectures with the analysis of the examples of design approaches from the reality, the world's practices and technological environments. The manners of abstract thinking and the associated transformation of ideas are introduced as well.

Course title: Product design studio Lecturer: doc. mag. Petra Bole CONTENT:

Socially responsible, aesthetic and rationally designed objects, tools, and all sorts of elements of the living environment are of utmost importance; this includes both industrial design and the most sophisticated forms of unique design. Contemporary design originates from justified developmental, theoretical and several disciplinary researches, which deepen the knowledge of the active tradition of the discipline, of product rationality and define the design practice in its efficiency and expressiveness. In short, this is the area and the creative realization which produced artifacts of modern times and whose creative starting points are the aesthetic form, expression, message and integration it into a space.

Course title: Intellectual Property Law Lecturer: red. prof. dr. Krešo Puharič CONTENT:

Introductory we will deal with design and the importance of the legal protection of the intellectual property rights and their categorisation within domestic and conventional law. The basic procedure characteristics of model obtaining, as the right with which one can register the look of a product which is new and has its individual nature, will be explained in detail. Meanwhile we will also point out the contents of the rights from the model and its duration as well as the importance of international model deposit. We will deal with other distinction signs, e.g. brand and company from the point of view of their design components. Next to the protection possibilities of design achievements in the framework of industrial property law, national and comparative legal basis for the decision about the legal protection of models (designs) in the framework of copyright will be particularly explained. We will also explain the basis of contractual transfer of rights of intellectual property with license and copyright agreements. Special emphasis will be given to the importance of preventing the acts of unfair competition and piracy.

MASTERS WORK (thesis) The student in the in the frame of master seminar obtains all the necessary knowledge on the methodology of scientific research work of preparing the thesis, gather information, resources and literature, the structure of the thesis. The seminar is intended for continuous monitoring of the work and development of each candidate in writing an MA thesis, the candidate's presentation of the partial results, evaluation of the work and preparation for a successful defence of a thesis. The student in collaboration with the supervisor selects the topic that he/she wishes to address in his master work. Mentoring overtakes a university teacher, who was qualified in the area that is the subject of a thesis. The process of seminar work is divided into: candidate's individual research and work with a mentor which is performed through seminar work, individual corrections, consultations and the proposed work methodology. The final Master's seminar is designed according to criteria of scientific-research methods in the field of humanities, social sciences, space design and interior design. The result is a master thesis that is substantially developed with the guidance of scientific work.

Studio work is composed of individual topic blocks, with the emphasis on the independent creation and design of exhibition spaces, the identity of space, the public presentation of products. The fundamental premise is the control of the functions and importance of space elements and equipment; and informing about the placement of these elements in different ambiences. Students acquire the concept of setting up exhibition spaces and various standard, respectively, functional layouts. Through the perception of a story that sets a connecting thread of designing an exhibition, various possible approaches and methods of placing items in the space are presented. A special emphasis is also on the visual symbols of the layout, the recognizable marks of a designed exhibition.
