Potenþialul turistic de excepþie al României estemarcat prin douã componente esenþiale:- componenta naturalã, reprezentatã prin peisajespectaculoase, configuraþia variatã a reliefului,condiþiile climatice favorabile, valoarea terapeuticãºi abundenþa unor factori naturali de curã;- componenta antropicã, reprezentatã prin vestigiiale civilizaþiilor ce s-au succedat pe teritoriulRomâniei din vremuri imemoriale, monumente ºiobiective de artã laicã sau religioase, muzee ºicolecþii muzeale, elemente de etnografie ºi folclorde mare frumuseþe ºi originalitate, realizãri actualede prestigiu.Acestea constituie elementele de mareatractivitate ale ofertei turistice româneºti,prezentând o paletã largã de forme de turism: desejur (de litoral, montan, balnear), vânãtoare ºipescuit sportiv, turism itinerant cu valenþeculturale, turism profesional etc.

Poziþia geograficã îi conferã României statutul deþarã carpato-danubiano-ponticã, datoritã celortrei elemente naturale definitorii în structurapeisagisticã ºi a teritoriului: Munþii Carpaþi, fluviulDunãrea ºi Marea Neagrã.Fiecare formã a cadrului natural deþine, dupãspecificul sãu, o anumitã capacitate de potenþialturistic, urmãritã pe treptele majore de relief,creºte de la câmpie, la dealuri ºi podiºuri pânã launitãþile montane, excepþie fãcând litoralulromânesc al Mãrii Negre ºi Delta Dunãrii, careprezintã aspecte fizico-geografice originale.România este deþinãtoarea unui tezaur imens devestigii arheologice, monumente istorice, dearhitecturã sau de artã, ca ºi a unui inestimabilpatrimoniu care atestã evoluþia ºi continuitateade muncã ºi de viaþã pe aceste meleaguri,dezvoltarea culturii ºi artei poporului român.

The exceptional tourism potential of Romania hastwo main components:- the natural component, represented by spectacularlandscapes, varied configuration of the relief,favourable climatic conditions and lots of naturaltherapeutic spas;- the historical component, represented by traces ofsucceeding civilisations that had lived on Romanianterritory since ancient times, monuments and lay orreligious art objects, museums and museumcollections, beautiful and original ethnographicaland folklore elements and actual prestigiousachievements.All the above mentioned constitute very attractiveelements of the Romanian tourism offer, presentinga wide variety of tourism types: stay (seaside,mountain, spa), hunting and sport fishing, culturaltourism at large, professional tourism a.s.o.

Due to its geographical position and to the threenatural elements defining its landscape structureand territory: the Carpathians, the Danube and theBlack Sea, Romania has the status of a Pontian-Danubian-Carpathian country.Each natural element, by its specific, has a certaincapacity of tourism potential, pursued on majorsteps of relief, increasing from the plain to the hillsand plateaus up to the mountains, with theexception of the Romanian seaside of the Black Seaand the Danube Delta which present physical andgeographical original aspects.Romania holds a huge treasury of archaeologicaltraces, historical, architecture and art monuments, aswell as a valuable patrimony certifying the continuouslabour and life evolution on these lands and thedevelopment of the Romanian culture and art.


The main cultural and historical tourism resourcesare the following:- archaeological artifacts;- historical, architecture and art monuments ofunique value;- museums and memorial houses;- folklore and traditions;- tourist villages.Here are some of the most representative tourismareas of Romania with their special characteristics:- Bucharest - capital of Romania - the largestpolitical, industrial, administrative, cultural,scientific and tourism centre of the country; - The Carpathians - due to their width, easyaccess, original and beautiful mountainlandscapes, rich mineral waters and lots of

possibilities for winter sports, represent the largestand the most complex tourism area of thecountry. Here are located the internationalfamous mountain resorts Poiana Braºov, Sinaia,Predeal which, besides Borºa, Stâna de Vale,Pãltiniº, Durãu, Semenic, Muntele Mic, Bâlea,boast modern hotels and smart villas,restaurants, various entertainment facilities,tracks and installations for winter sports andcable transport. Spa tourism also boasts important treatment,accommodation and entertainment centres inbeautiful resorts of the Carpathian valleys andplateaus: Bãile Herculane, Bãile Felix, Cãlimãneºti-Cãciulata, Slãnic-Moldova, Bãile Tuºnad,Covasna, Vatra Dornei a.s.o.;

Resursele turistice antropice sunt în principal,urmãtoarele:- vestigiile arheologice;- monumentele istorice, de arhitecturã ºi de artãcu o valoare de unicat;- muzeele ºi casele memoriale;- mãrturiile civilizaþiei ºi culturii populare;- satele turistice.Între cele mai reprezentative zone turistice aleRomâniei se disting câteva cu caracteristici deosebite:- Bucureºti - capitala României cel mai marecentru politic, industrial, administrativ, cultural,ºtiinþific ºi turistic al þãrii;- Munþii Carpaþi - prin întindere, uºoarãaccesibilitate, originalitatea ºi frumuseþeapeisajelor montane, bogãþia de ape minerale ºi

multiple posibilitãþi de practicare a sporturilorde iarnã, constituie cea mai mare ºi maicomplexã zonã turisticã a þãrii. Aici se gãsescrenumitele staþiuni montane internaþionalePoiana Braºov, Sinaia, Predeal, care, alãturi deBorºa, Stâna de Vale, Pãltiniº, Durãu, Semenic,Muntele Mic, Bâlea, dispun de hoteluri moderneºi vile cochete, restaurante, numeroaseposibilitãþi de agrement, pârtii ºi instalaþiipentru sporturile de iarnã ºi transport pe cablu. Turismul balnear are, de asemenea, puternicebaze de tratament, cazare ºi agrement înfrumoasele staþiuni din depresiunile sauculoarele de vãi carpatine: Bãile Herculane, BãileFelix, Cãlimãneºti-Cãciulata, Slãnic-Moldova,Bãile Tuºnad, Covasna, Vatra Dornei etc.;




- The Romanian seaside of the Black Sea - this regionis a complex one which increases its tourism value. Itlies on 245 km in length, with the Danube Delta andthe lagoon complex Razim-Sinoe to the North while tothe South, on about 70 km, there lies the seashoreitself. The seaside resorts which are well known atinternational level: Nãvodari, Mamaia, Eforie Nord,Eforie Sud, Techirghiol, Costineºti, Olimp, Neptun,Jupiter, Aurora, Venus, Saturn and Mangalia, have allmodern accommodation, treatment centres andvarious entertainment opportunities.- The Danube Delta - is located in the North of theRomanian seaside, 122 km from Constanþa. It is avery wide area of rush¸ water lilies, carnivorous andamphibious plants, poplar woods and weepingwillows. It is also the richest fauna park in Europe,with over 300 bird species and 60 fish species of greateconomic value;- North Moldavia, Bucovina or “Highlands of

Moldavia” - is famous at international level due toits monasteries and churches Voroneþ, Moldoviþa,Suceviþa, Humor, Arbore, Dragomirna, Putna a.s.o.;

- Maramureº - Oaº - this area represents one ofthe most original, historical and ethnographicalregions of the country. There are wooden churchesand massive gates that have original engravingsand various ornaments and Dacian pottery(Vama-Oaº);- Oltenia - is a very important tourism area situatedbetween the Southern Carpathians and theDanube;- Transylvania - known as such since the Romanconquest, it is a geographical region of Romaniasituated inside the Carpathian arch;

- Central Moldavia - this is the Romanianhistorical district situated at East of the EasternCarpathians;- The Danube - since antiquity, it has been acommunication channel between Central Europeand the Balkan peninsula;- Banat - this ancient habitation area andRomanian culture region, is situated in the South-Eastern part of Romania, between the Danube, theMureº river and the Southern Carpathians chain.

- Litoralul românesc al Mãrii Negre - zonarespectivã are o alcãtuire complexã care-i mãreºtevaloarea turisticã. Ea se desfãºoarã pe o lungimede 245 km, cu Delta Dunãrii ºi complexul delagune Razim-Sinoe la nord, iar la sud pe circa70 km se întinde litoralul turistic propriu-zis.Staþiunile de pe litoral, bine cunoscute în turismulinternaþional: Nãvodari, Mamaia, Eforie Nord,Eforie Sud, Techirghiol, Costineºti, Olimp, Neptun,Jupiter, Aurora, Venus, Saturn, Mangalia, aumoderne baze de cazare ºi tratament ºi diverseposibilitãþi de agrement;- Delta Dunãrii, este situatã în partea de nord alitoralului românesc, la 122 km de Constanþa. Seprezintã ca o imensã suprafaþã cu stuf, din care sedesprind plauri cu nuferi, plante amfibii ºicarnivore, pãduri de plopi ºi sãlcii pletoase. DeltaDunãrii este totodatã ºi cel mai bogat parcfaunistic din Europa, cu peste 300 specii de pãsãri,60 specii de peºti de mare valoare economicã;- Moldova de Nord, Bucovina sau “þara de Sus a

Moldovei” - este renumitã pe plan internaþionalprin mãnãstirile ºi bisericile sale - Voroneþ,

Prin structurã de primire turisticã cu funcþiuni de

cazare turisticã se înþelege orice construcþie sauamenajare, care furnizeazã în mod permanent sausezonier serviciul de cazare ºi alte servicii specificepentru turiºti.Nu se cuprind în structurile de primire turisticã

cu funcþiuni de cazare turisticã: structurile deprimire folosite în exclusivitate de posesori sauchiriaºi, pe o duratã mai mare de un an, indiferentde clasificarea acestora; locuinþele secundare ale

populaþiei, utilizate în scopuri turistice în modexclusiv de posesorii acestora; cãminele,internatele ºcolare pe perioada anului ºcolar,unitãþile spitaliceºti (cu excepþia sanatoriilor ºialtor spaþii similare ce practicã în mod exclusivactivitãþi turistice); vagoanele dormitor;adãposturile ºi refugiile montane ºi similare;barãcile ºi dormitoarele pentru muncitori,cãminele de bãtrâni ºi casele de copii.

functions of tourists’ accommodation do not

include: establishments of accomodation usedexclusively by owners or tenants for over one year,

irrespective of their classification; secondarydwellings of the population used for tourismpurposes, exclusively by their owners; hostels andboarding schools during school year, hospital units(excepting sanatoria and other similar spaces whichexclusively have tourism activities); sleeping cars;mountain shelters and refuges and similar; workershuts and bedrooms, retirement homes for oldpeople and children hostels.

În numãrul structurilor de primire turisticã cu

funcþiuni de cazare turisticã sunt cuprinsestructurile de primire turisticã existente la 31 iuliedin anul respectiv, fiind excluse cele a cãroractivitate a fost întreruptã pentru o perioadã maimare de timp, în vederea realizãrii unor reparaþiicapitale sau pentru modificãri importante alecapacitãþii de cazare sau/ºi a categoriei deîncadrare.

Capacitatea de cazare turisticã existentã

(instalatã) reprezintã numãrul de locuri decazare de folosinþã turisticã înscrise în ultimulact de recepþie, omologare sau clasificare alstructurii de primire turisticã, exclusiv paturilesuplimentare care se pot instala în caz denecesitate. Numãrul de locuri a fost determinatpentru structurile existente la 31 iulie din anulrespectiv.

Existing (provided) tourists’ accommodation

capacity represents the number of beds used for thetourists’ accommodation and registered in the lastreception, homologation or classification documentof tourists’ accommodation establishment, theextra-beds which can be provided, if necessary,excluded. The number of beds was determined forthe existing establishments on July 31 of therespective year.

Cercetãrile statistice cuprind structuri deprimire turisticã cu funcþiuni de cazare turisticãcu o capacitate de cazare instalatã de cel puþin 5locuri-pat.Capacitatea de cazare turisticã în funcþiune

(exprimatã în locuri-zile) reprezintã numãrul de

locuri de cazare puse la dispoziþia turiºtilor de cãtrestructurile de primire turisticã, þinând cont denumãrul de zile cât acestea sunt deschise în perioadaconsideratã. Se exclud locurile din camerele saustructurile închise temporar, din lipsã de turiºti,pentru reparaþii capitale sau pentru alte motive.

The statistical surveys comprise establishments oftourists’ reception with functions of tourists’accommodation having at least 5 beds as capacity oftourist’s accommodation.The tourists’ accommodation capacity in use

(expressed in places-days) represents the numberof accommodation beds put at the disposal of

tourists by the establishments of tourists’ reception,taking into account the number of days they areopened in the respective period. The beds from therooms or establishments temporarily closed, due tolack of tourists, for capital repairs or for otherreasons, are excluded.

Gruparea indicatorilor s-a efectuat dupã formade proprietate asupra capitalului social al unitãþiiºi anume:- proprietate majoritar de stat care cuprindecapitalul integral de stat, public de interesnaþional ºi local, mixt (unde statul deþine peste50% din capital);

- proprietate majoritar privatã, care cuprindecapitalul integral privat, mixt (peste 50% capitalsocial privat), integral strãin, cooperatist ºiobºtesc.

The indicators were grouped according to theownership type of the unit of the social capital asfollows:- mainly state ownership includes the publicintegral state capital of national and local interestand the mixed one (over 50% state owned socialcapital);

turisticã cuprinde toate persoanele (români ºistrãini) care cãlãtoresc în afara localitãþilor încare îºi au domiciliul stabil, pentru o perioadã

mai micã de 12 luni ºi stau cel puþin o noapteîntr-o structurã de primire turisticã în zonevizitate din þarã; motivul principal al cãlãtorieieste altul decât acela de a desfãºura o activitateremuneratã în locurile vizitate.

The number of tourists accommodated in the

establishments of tourists’ reception with

function of tourists’ accommodation includes allpersons (Romanians and foreigners) who traveloutside the localities of residence, for less than 12

months and who stay at least one night in anestablishment of tourists’ reception in the visitedareas of the respective country; the main reason ofthe trip is other than carrying out a paid activity inthe visited places.

geograficã de reºedinþã a acestuia.

The overnight stay represents every night for whichone person is registered into an establishment oftourists’ reception with functions of tourists’accommodation, no matter if this person is present orabsent from the room.

The accommodation of the foreign tourist is donein an establishment of tourists’ reception withfunctions of tourists’ accommodation and he/she, isregistered by his/her country of residence or

Vizitator internaþional este, din punct de vederestatistic, orice persoanã care cãlãtoreºte cãtre oþarã, alta decât aceea în care îºi are reºedinþa,pentru o perioadã care sã nu depãºeascã 12 luni,scopul principal al vizitei fiind altul decâtexercitarea unei activitãþi remunerate în þaravizitatã.Sosirile cuprind numãrul vizitatorilor strãiniînregistraþi la intrarea în þarã.

Plecãrile cuprind numãrul vizitatorilor românicare cãlãtoresc în strãinãtate ºi sunt înregistraþi laieºirea din þarã.Aceeaºi persoanã din strãinãtate poate realiza, înperioada respectivã, mai multe cãlãtorii în þarã,fiind înregistratã de fiecare datã ca o nouã sosire.În acelaºi mod se procedeazã la plecãrilevizitatorilor români în strãinãtate.

From the statistical point of view the international

visitor is any person who travels to a country, otherthan his country of residence, for a period notexceeding 12 months, the main purpose of his visitbeing other than carrying out a paid activity in thevisited country.Arrivals include the number of foreign visitorsregistered when entering the country.

Departures include the number of Romanianvisitors who travel abroad and are registered whenleaving the country.The same person from abroad can travel severaltimes in the respective period within the country,every time being registered as a new arrival.Departures of Romanian visitors abroad aretreated in the same way.

Sfera de cuprindere a anchetei o constituiepersoanele rezidente în România, cu vârsta de celpuþin 15 ani împliniþi, din cadrul unui eºantionreprezentativ de gospodãrii.Unitatea de observare este gospodãria, prin carese înþelege un grup de douã sau mai multepersoane, care în mod obiºnuit locuiesc împreunã,au în general legãturi de rudenie, se gospodãresc(fac menajul) în comun, uneori lucreazã împreunãîn gospodãrie, consumã ºi valorificã în comunprodusele obþinute, participã integral sau parþial

la formarea ºi utilizarea bugetului de venituri ºicheltuieli al gospodãriei.Înregistrarea datelor a fost fãcutã prin metodainterviului faþã în faþã, rolul principal revenindanchetatorilor, care s-au deplasat la domiciliulgospodãriilor ce au fãcut obiectul anchetei.Perioada de referinþã pentru înregistrarea

datelor este trimestrul. Date din Breviar prezintãcumulat datele rezultate din ancheteletrimestrelor I-IV 2012.

The survey coverage comprises residents inRomania, aged 15 at least, from a representativehousehold sample.The observation unit is the household, consisting ofa group of two or more persons, who usually livetogether, are relatives, do the housekeeping together,sometimes work together in the household, consumethe obtained products and take part totally orpartially in creating and using the income andexpenditure budget of the household.

The data registration has been done based onface-to-face interviews, the main role being playedby the investigators who visit the households subjectto the survey in question.The reference period for data registration is thequarter. The data in “The Romanian TourismStatistical Abstract” are cumulated based on the2012 quarterly surveys.
