CCOP

The Coordinating Committee for Coastal and Offshore Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP) is an Intergovernmental Organization focused on regional geo-scientific aspects. CCOP has devoted itself to coordination of, and cooperation in, scientific activities related to coastal and offshore geological/geophysical surveys, regional map compilation and database development, human resources development and technology transfer. There are four fields of interests: energy, mineral resources, coastal zone management, ground water and geohazards. CCOP was initiated in 1966 by China, Japan, Republic of Korea and the Philippines under the auspices of ESCAP(ECAFE) of the United nations. CCOP became an independent intergovernmental organization in 1987 based on the common understanding of its member countries and the aspirations of the United Nations. CCOP Technical Secretariat is based in Bangkok, Thailand. CCOP consists of 13 member countries i.e., Cambodia, China, Indonesia, Japan, Republic of Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Papua New Guinea, The Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Timor Leste, Vietnam. Myanmar is an observer with the intent of becoming members of CCOP. CCOP is assisted by 14 cooperating countries and several international organizations.
