Artificial Intelligence Threat

rtificial Intelligence (AI) poses a threat to eliminate a variety of jobs

today through automation. To define, AI makes it possible for machines to learn human-like tasks through experience. Computers can now handle many tasks and process large amounts of information and patterns in data. This is a serious concern to society and how we run business and livelihoods.

The Threat of Mass Unemployment

If computers replace employees, what would that look like? Research shows that we could have a mass unemployment on our hands. The top positions that could disappear are real estate brokers, sports referees, and insurance claims adjusters because AI would be able to handle these roles well and it would be cheaper.

People would act out in fear if this happened.

Lawyers, managers, writers, and other white-collar workers would perhaps be in rebellion out of frustration, fear, and lack of work. They could be replaced by AI.

AI Capabilities

People have thought for years that computers would never be able to replace people for different reasons. A few of them include the ability to:

• Show empathy • Be emotional • Creativity

However, as time passes, these are becoming more and more part of the AI capabilities. Two decades ago, this was unfathomable but it’s clearly possible today. Those that work on the continued development of AI have even begun to show signs of concern for the future and what the capabilities look like.

Potential Revolution A revolution of white-collar workers could be a potential result to AI taking their jobs in the future. White-collar workers have a sphere of influential people. They are organized. They understand the larger problem, and can gain sympathy from others who could potentially lose their jobs too.

The underlying problem of a potential revolt would be a politico-economic system that does not separate wealth and state and focuses on wealth above all else.

AI is something to pay attention to since it is a threat and one that only continues to grow. The job market as we know it today is changing and will look quite different as the years go by.

What should we do as a society to improve this situation?

AI appears to be here to stay and we need to think through what that looks like and how to handle it for the future. ~ Written for us by our associate Gary Sorrell, Sorrell Associates, LLC. Copyright protected. All rights reserved.

Often team members lack the confidence to speak up even though they have the right information. Provide an encouraging environment and keep everyone focused.

4. Empowerment Build your team's authority by allowing them to make decisions and execute their ideas. A team that has the ability to make effective decisions will reduce turnover and increase engagement and ultimately can contribute to bottom-line effectiveness.

5. Reflective Self-reflection is the key for this leadership style. Analyzing past events, actions, and results will help generate new ideas & solutions. This allows you to experience insights that may result in better opportunities for the future. This style is powerful, but it can be difficult at time as it requires you to put aside your vision and inspirations to let the team discover its own path forward.

6. Idealistic For some, this style comes naturally and for others, it takes work. As an idealistic thinker, it is important to demonstrate the desired outcomes. Paint a detailed and vivid picture of the desired results. While this style is highly persuasive, use it sparingly; as its power comes in with infrequent and strategic use.

Great leaders know how to leverage natural skills and work on developing individual weaknesses.

It is essential to know which approach is best to use in specific circumstances and know when to avoid overusing one just because you excel at it. ~ Written for us by our associate Gary Sorrell, Sorrell Associates, LLC. Copyright protected. All rights reserved.

A Leader’s Ability To Judge And Think Critically Is Important

elieve it or not, a leader that has the ability to think and judge critically is more important than a resume full of accolades. If

you want to hire a dynamic individual, then you need to focus on selecting a high-level thinker.

While looking for the next top talent for your company, be sure to place the capacity for judgment and critical thinking as part of the criteria as you make your hiring decision. You’ll make a better and better-rounded hire.

Good, Sound Judgment

One that has good judgment is able to be strategic in their thought processes. They are able to use critical thinking skills in order to make sound decisions as a leader. An individual that has good judgment is equipped to do the following:

• Plan ahead and have forethought • Organize information and provide it clearly to others • Understand the power of cause and effect

Critical Thinking

As a critical thinker, you want to be able to foresee the outcome, think about potential consequences and be able to change as needed. Emotions don’t need to get involved here. The truth, facts, and matter at hand must be addressed and thought through. Strong leaders are able to curb emotion and act strategically.

Another skill set that goes along with a critical thinker is that they can compare the past and current situations in a way that provides experience and impact to improve the current matter. With this, a leader should be able to set aside their own pride to bring up things that would help the given situation, even if it reveals past mistakes or room for improvement.

Critical thinking requires the following:

• The skill to take on a problem with an organized approach • The ability to know what information is needed to be obtained • The foresight to consider alternative options and ways to think

about situations

Leadership Roles

Leaders must be self-aware and must work to focus on critical thinking and sound judgment. If they miss this, they are not able to lead their team and be as sharp and ready to tackle projects.

These two skills, critical thinking, and judgment are skills that set people apart. They are advanced and often a rare find.

When times are difficult and stress is high, leaders will revert to a lower cognitive functioning because they are just human after all. The ability to have this higher level of thinking means that you will be an asset to your team, superiors, and company as a whole. ~ Written for us by our associate Gary Sorrell, Sorrell Associates, LLC. ROAD SIGNS IN LIFE On the highways of life, there are many signs that tell how far it is to the next stop, where the next turnoff is, where you're going. There are two ways to add road signs to your personal life.

1) Set goals. They become your own road signs for where you want to go and the route you want to take.

2) Give other people road signs about what you expect in the relationship. By sharing your expectations, you can initiate discussion and clarify both your expectations.

ACCEPTANCE, CHANGE, ATTITUDE

Be Still In The Moment; Be YourselfPrepare the Way – Prepare your spirit for joy,

happiness and success.

Get Ready – Clean out the clutter

Barbara Hemphill says “Clutter is postponed decision”

ave you ever felt stuck, paralyzed, overwhelmed and smothered with clutter in your surroundings,

body, mind and spirit?

Did you ever get a feeling of heaviness? Perhaps you didn’t want to walk into a room or be with someone because there was so much clutter in the room or in the relationship.

Synchronicity happens when you clean off your desk – When I started cleaning my desk off, I found things that I forget were even there. I said – Oh – that’s where that went. And yes – I want to do something about this. This is great idea. Everything was coming together. I started making my “to do” list as I handled each piece of paper. I was beginning to form a plan.

Mike was really on my mind that day. I was supposed to meet with Mike the following Monday however the meeting was cancelled because his last day at his job had come up. He got a promotion as a Senior Executive Director. I wanted to connect and get an appointment with him. I could not find his number. One hour later I picked up a piece of paper with several names and telephone numbers and one of the numbers said – Mike. I decided to dial the number right on the spot. The phone rang about 4 times and Marie answered the phone. I was taken back for a minute and then said – Hi Marie this is Pat Bender. Marie was also really taken back. We had not spoken in 2 years. She said, “I just landed in San Diego. Five weeks ago I became the Director of this organization. She said this was Mike’s number. That was synchronicity. She told me to call her next week to set up a meeting.

It was an enlightening, uplifting, refreshing, creative and energetically good day. I was preparing to form a strategy. I could actually see my desk and I felt a

sense of freedom. The heaviness was lifting. It made me smile. Getting rid of clutter frees me up and makes me smile.

It’s time for a Revival. Get lifted up

Radiate your smile – I’d never been to a revival before and I didn’t even know what a revival was – but I decided I am going to try something new. I drove to Baltimore to the revival. I was stuck in traffic on 95. It was like parking lot. Then I was stuck in downtown Baltimore traffic. I was at the monument and said – I can’t wait for this revival. I don’t know what to expect – but I know there will be an answer. As soon as I said that to myself – out loud the phone rang. It was my customer. I answered and said, “seeing your name on my phone makes me smile.” He said, “Hey Pat – I have good news.” I asked “what’s the good news” and he said that he just won a big contract and will need my services. I congratulated him; this was really great news. Something good was brewing.

I knew it was time to step back and reflect. I knew it was time to stop doing what I was doing and listen as I was walking in the cold and the dark into the revival.

I was in a room filled with love. I only knew a couple people. It was time to say hello and welcome each other. Everyone started going up to me saying “Welcome.” It was like all of the worry and the burdens were lifted from me. I could feel the heaviness leave me. Then I got out of my seat and started walking around welcoming everyone. This is what I noticed about myself. I started smiling. It was like magic. The heaviness lifted.

The message I received that night was to focus on love. Put your burdens and your hurts down. Now that you have done that you don’t have to worry about them anymore. Treat people with love, kindness and respect. I had peace on my heart and felt light as a feather. It was a revival and I was revived.

Everyone can use some help – I enjoy boating very much. I usually boat on the Eastern Shore of

H

Bayley & Bender, Inc. - Still Living the Dream 6 Facebook, LinkedIn, Youtube, Instagram, Wordpress, Twitter

Maryland. To get ready for the winter, the boat is now shrink wrapped and I didn’t want to jump on the boat by myself fearing that I might fall in the water. I also needed help putting the bubbler on the pier. It was cold and windy – about 35 degrees.

I had to put the bubbler on the pier so the pier would be protected when the water freezes and it won’t pull the pier up. I also had to get on the boat to take items off and put ‘Damp-Rid’ on to keep the moisture out. I called Captain Todd and asked him if he could help me.

Go into the silence. Reflect

We finished the job and that was a relief to get that job done. We walked off the pier and were surrounded by nature. It was cold but it was sort of kind of cozy if that makes any sense. It was really quiet. You could hear the spirit in the universe. We could feel the deer looking at us from the woods. The sun was about to set. It had a golden tone in the sky and it was reflecting on the water. The geese were flying. We were having a deep conversation. It was so quiet that I could hear the universe whispering to us. It was such a powerful 15 minutes.

I told him about the revival and he listened with his heart. Captain Todd can read the wind and the waters. He is very wise. He said, “Sometimes we have to take a step back and refocus. We need to take a break from it. Step back and listen and let it unfold.” He told me about the advice he gave to one of his clients that is in business development. He said “All you need is to get one piece of business and the momentum will happen. It’s like priming the pump. Then it’s going to turn fast and then you will be so busy that you won’t have time to do anything else. You won’t even have time to go fishing.”
