Migration Strategy

Challenges• Interoperability – staying interoperable all the time during migration phase• Avoiding Service Interruption during Migration

Migration Aspects• Separate Migration Phases (onboard, transmission, network, …)• Migration Strategy (onboard first, then network … )• Spectrum – availability for Migration• Coexistence of FRMCS and GSM-R incl. Network Sharing or complementary band• Phasing out of GSM-R – e.g. use of free spectrum (efficiently, e.g. ETCS o GPRS)

Specifics per country• Legacy networks (e.g. national

interfaces)• Service migration scenarios• Migration procedure • Timing

Preparation • Update of transmission network• Preparing/optimizing GSM-R frequency plan • ETCS over GPRS substituting ETCS over

CSD

RCM is an application that monitors the condition of track assets remotely. RCM can be supplied as a standalone system or as part of the Voice cab radio. Using the additional capacity of the additional cab radio processor, together with the addition of a sensor card, the application is able to measure and record the motion of the train on the track. A GNSS module provides the train’s position to the cab radio.

The GPS location provided ensures that maintenance is accurately directed and planned, minimising the time maintenance staff spend on tracks and therefore improving their safety. The advanced dead reckoning features of the GNSS (GPS) mean that locations can be ascertain even in areas with no GPS signal (i.e. tunnels).

•Network wide installations create a condition monitoring system, capable of collecting data from the entire network within a very short period of time

•Multiple journeys by multiple trains reduces the chance of false alarms and increases defect location and size accuracy

RCM – Track condition monitoring of the entire network

• Accurate GPS location information allows maintenance to be directed to the identified location

• Network-wide installation of Nexus RCM can provide a network track assessment in less than a week

What is an “accelerometer”?

Accelerometer sensor card, built into the Nexus Voice cab radio or as part of a standalone system can detect the motion of the train across three axes. The accelerometer helps to detect & define a number of different track defects including; voids, rough-ride and dip-track.

RCM System Requirements:RCM have negligible to very low installation costs as system is in fact a software application that does not require any additional hardware and potentially does not require a visit to the train. RCM uses the installed cab radio asset already existing on the train.

Planned and directed maintenance minimises time maintenance staff spend on

tracks, improving maintenance workers’ safety.

Built-in signal processing means only relevant data needs to be transferred

to the ground, minimising the size of data transfers.

Trend growth allows advanced warning, providing planned,

prioritised and preventative maintenance.

Track monitoring by in-service trains using Nexus RCM helps reduce the high track monitoring costs and

the service disruption associated with survey

trains.

Preventive maintenance - a comparison between runs

can highlight sections where track deterioration is

detected. This allows the maintenance teams to

correct the problems before it becomes a more serious

defect

C-DAS System Requirements:

C-DAS have negligible to very low installation costs as system is in fact a software application that does not require any additional hardware and potentially does not require a visit to the train. C-DAS uses the installed cab radio asset already existing on the train.

What does “connected” in C-DAS means?

Our connected-driver Advisory System has an integrated connectivity of GNSS/GPS and LTE. This connectivity allows real-time updates of route data, timetable updates, temporary speed restrictions, positioning etc.

Reduction in Co2 emissions and energy

savings of up to 20% due to optimized advice for the most economical

journey.

Uses existing assets without the need for costly installations. This also implies that familiar displays will minimise driver training & that

the application software is remotely installed onto the

existing Siemens cab radio.

Real-time updates of route data, timetable

updates and temporary speed restrictions

improves train punctuality and optimises

line capacity.

Reduction in braking leads to reduced maintenance cost and reduction in red

signal approaches.

The application software displays a marker to remind

the driver if the train is scheduled to stop there. At

the end of the journey C-DAS also offers a “driver adherence” score.

CRMT System Requirements:

CRMT have negligible to very low installation costs as system is in fact a software application that does not require any additional hardware and potentially does not require a visit to the train. CRMT uses the installed cab radio asset already existing on the train.

What is CRMT? Enables remote uploading of new versions

of cab radio application software Provides simultaneous activation of

software/phone book changes Intuitive user interface with menu-based

options Enables inventory information to be

collected from the cab radio Provides ground side interface
