With Lab-Volt’s Rigging System, students learn how to move and install machines safely. Machines that need to be moved in indus- trial settings are all different, since they are usually built for special applications. They have different shapes and are often asymmetrical. Their weight, which is not evenly balanced on the machine sup- ports, can create difficulties for the rigger. There- fore riggers need to be highly skilled and qualified to move machines safely and efficiently. To help acquire these basic skills, the Lab-Volt Rigging System was created to cover the funda- mentals of rigging practices, including techniques to help students move and install machines safely. Moving machines is a basic requirement for any industrial plant. With Lab-Volt’s Rigging System, students learn how to move and install machines safely. Courseware

The courseware consists of a fully illustrated stu-dent manual accompanied by an instructor guide. The manual contains a series of Work Orders.

Work Orders can be used to evaluate students. Each Work Order includes a brief description and illustration of the task and the main steps of the work to be done. Some Work Orders require basic math skills.

The instructor guide contains the measurements and calculation results as well as the answers to the post-tests. They also include a work assess-ment table to evaluate the work done by the stu-dent. The Rigging Training System courseware also includes a reference textbook titled Basic Rigging from Job Training Systems, Inc. and Handbook of Knots by Des Pawson.

Refer to the Table of Contents of the Student Man-ual section for a list of the topics covered in the student manuals.

MODULE DESCRIPTION

Model 36816 – Plate Lifting Clamp

This type of clamp is suitable for the lifting and vertical transfer of steel plates and similar material and has a capacity of 500 lb (227 kg).

Model 36808 – Pinch Bar

The pinch bar is a 60 in (1.5 m) lever with a pointed projection that serves as a fulcrum.

Model 36810 – Cribbing Blocks

Used to safely stabilize and support heavy loads, the Model 36810 cribbing blocks measure 4 x 4 x 5 in (100 x 100 x 125 mm).

Model 36811 – Cribbing Blocks

Used to safely stabilize and support heavy loads, the Model 36811 cribbing blocks measure 2 x 4 x 8 in (50 x 100 x 200 mm).

Model 36815 – Beam Clamp

The 2000 lb (907 kg) capacity steel beam clamp is used in overhead lifting and rigging applications.

Model 36820 – Wire Rope Cutter

The wire rope cutter has forged steel jaws and an overall length of 28 in (711 mm).

Model 36821 – Lever Dolly

The lever dolly easily slides under extremely heavy loads with the reversed beveled nose iron. Dolly weighs 34 lb (15.4 kg) and has a load capacity of 4250 lb (1927 kg)

Model 36823 – Chain Hoist

The 18 x 24 in (450 x 610 mm) wood dolly is smoothly fi nished with fl ush top bolted construc-tion, four swivel hard rubber casters and a 1200 lb (544 kg) capacity.

This 300 lb (136 kg) capacity commercial-duty hoist features latch-style swivel hooks for positive load engagement. Brakes stop and hold loads, even during power loss, while upper and lower limit switches prevent chain overtravel.

The chain hoist has a capacity of 1000 lb (454 kg) and features a mechanical load brake, compact gear housing, and high tensile alloy chain.

Model 36828 – Lift Crate Load

The 30 ½ x 23 ½ x 15 ½ in (775 x 597 x 394 mm) lift-crate is used to simulate a machine. The lift crate weighs 82 lb (37 kg) and, for convenience, is permanently mounted on two pieces of timber that are used as skids. Usually the skids are installed under a machine prior to its move.

Model 36827 – I-Beam Load Model 36829 – Steel Pipe Load

The I-beam load measures 6 x 6 x 71 in (150 x 150 x 1800 mm) and weighs 66 lb (30 kg).

The steel pipe load has a diameter of 8 5/8 in (220 mm), a length of 48 in (1200 mm), and weighs 66 lb (30 kg).

Model 36825 – Hydraulic Jack

The 4000 lb (1814 kg) capacity hydraulic jack fea-tures a heavy-duty steel saddle for secure lifts, heat treated piston for maximum strength, and centered pump and ram for balance and easy positioning.

Model 36849 – Double-Chain Sling

Adjustable all-purpose sling easily lifts even/un-even loads. Alloy steel master control link. Single chain capacity, 2100 lb (953 kg). Capacity at 60°, double-chain, 3600 lb (1633 kg).

Double-chain slings are often used for rugged, in-dustrial applications in harsh environments where fl exibility, abrasion resistance and long life are re-quired. Capacity at 60°: 6100 lb (2767 kg). Capac-ity at 45°, 4900 lb (2222 kg). Capacity at 30°, 3500 lb (1588 kg).

Model 36850 – Polyester Endless Sling

Model 36851 – Polyester Twisted Eye Sling

The 8-ft (2.43 m) endless sling is ideal for a va-riety of raising, lowering, and suspending appli-cations. Polyester slings are best for applications where limited stretch is desired. Capacity vertical lift, 3100 lb (1406 kg). Capacity choker lift, 2480 lb (1125 kg). Capacity basket lift, 6200 lb (2812 kg).

The 6 ft (1.82 m) twisted eye sling forms a superior choker hitch and allows a better fi t on a crane hook in a basket hitch. Capacity vertical lift, 1550 lb (703 kg). Capacity choker lift, 1240 lb (562 kg). Capacity basket lift, 3100 lb (1406 kg).

Model 36853 – Load Softeners

Model 36859 – Cribbing Timbers

Sharp edges can slice a sling in two without warn-ing as the load is tensioned. These load softeners protect the sling from sharp edges.

These 4 x 4 x 32 in (100 x 100 x 810 mm) cribbing timbers are used to build a stable platform for sup-porting a load as it is raised and preventing it from dropping should the jack or lifting device fail.
