Individualised Support for Learning through ePortfolios

ePortfolio ‘an electronic tool to support PDP, including an electronic archive, opportunities for diagnostic testing & interactive learning, feedback & support, and facilities to manipulate & present outputs, such as CV’ (ISLE definition)
Individualised Support for Learning through ePortfolios
Purpose of PDP
“The primary objective of PDP is to improve the capacity of individuals to understand what and how they are learning, and to review, plan and take responsibility for their own learning, helping students:
– Become more effective, independent and confident self-directed learners
– Understand how they are learning and relate their learning to a wider context
– Improve their general skills for study and career management– Articulate their personal goals and evaluate progress towards
their achievement– Encourage a positive attitude to learning throughout life

PDP Process
• Three learner activities are commonly identified:– Planning– Recording– Reflection
• ISLE Integrative Pedagogical Framework derived from – Effective Learning Framework (ELF)– SQA PDP
Individualised Support for Learning through ePortfolios
ISLE Integrative Pedagogical Framework
• goal setting and “action” planning• doing (learning through the experience of doing
with greater awareness) • recording (thoughts, ideas, experiences,
evidence of learning….) • reviewing (reflections on what has happened,
making sense of it all), and • evaluating (making judgements about self and
own work and determining what needs to be done to develop/improve/move on)
• Iterative – not repetitive!
