Dennis W. Fisher

Dennis W. Fisher is the conductor of the Symphonic Band and Associate Director of Wind Studies at the University of North Texas. As Professor of Music in Conducting and Ensembles, Mr. Fisher is integrally involved with the conducting and music education programs at the University. A Kansas native, he holds degrees from Emporia State University arid Fort Hays State University.

Mr. Fisher brings to his position a wide variety of experience and expertise as a conductor, arranger, clinician, educator and consultant., Mr. Fisher is very active as an arranger for all wind mediums, including symphonic band, marching band and chamber music. His arrangements and transcriptions are performed by major wind groups and military bands around the world. He frequently serves as a clinician, conductor, and adjudicator throughout the country having lectured, conducted, and performed in Thailand, Japan, Great Britain, Europe, Scandinavia, and throughout the United States.

Mr. Fisher has recorded extensively on the Mark, Eurosound, and Klavier labels with the University of North Texas Symphonic Band and Wind Symphony. He serves as recording and' editing producer of the Teaching Music Through Performance in Band series. Vol. I (1997), Vol. II (1998), Vol. III (1999), and Vol. IV (2000); and also the Teaching Music Through Performance for Beginning Band series (2000), published and distributed by G.I.A. Publications. He is also co-author of Comprehensive Warm-ups for Winds and Percussion (2001).

Mr. Fisher holds professional memberships in Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, The Texas Music Educators Association, The Texas Bandmaster Association, The National Band Association, and the College Band Directors National Association. He has been honored by Phi Beta Mu National Band Fraternity with an invitation to membership. Other honors include being named 'Top Prof' by the Mortarboard Society at U.N.T. and the North Texas Community Award. He currently serves as Chair of the Faculty Senate at the University of North Texas.

Ray E. Cramer

Ray E. Cramer has been a member of the Indiana University School of Music faculty since the fall of 1969. In 1982, Mr. Cramer was appointed Director of Bands. Under his leadership the Indiana University Wind Ensemble has earned an international reputation for outstanding musical performances including the 1982 ABA Convention, Indianapolis; the 1984 joint American Bandmasters Association / Japan Bandmasters Association Convention, Tokyo; the 1988 MENC National Convention, Indianapolis; the 1991 National CBDNA Convention in Kansas City, the 1994 National MENC Convention in Cincinnati, the 1995 ABA Convention in Lawrence, Kansas, the 1997 National CBDNA Convention in Athens, Georgia, a 2000 spring tour to Japan performing in six cities and the All Japan Band Clinic plus numerous regional and state conventions. In addition to his administrative responsibilities as the Department Chairman, Mr. Cramer teaches graduate courses in wind conducting, history and literature. He also conducts the University Orchestra during the fall semester.

He is a member of ABA, CBDNA, NBA, WASBE, MENC, IMEA, IBA, CIDA, and is affiliated with Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, Kappa Kappa Psi, Tau Beta Sigma, Phi Kappa Delta and Phi Beta Mu. Mr. Cramer is a recipient of the Student Alumni Council Senior Faculty Award (1983), the Kappa Kappa Psi Distinguished Service to Music Award(1988), the CIDA Director of the Year Award (1988), the Phi Beta Mu, International Assembly, Outstanding Bandmaster Award (1988) and the Kappa Kappa Psi Bohumil Makovsky Memorial Award (1991). Be is a past National President of the College Band Directors National Association and has served as president of the Indiana Bandmasters Association, the North Central Division of CBDNA and the Big Ten Band Directors Association. He is the current President of the Midwest Clinic, an. international band and orchestra convention held in Chicago each December.

Mr. Cramer is actively involved in clinics and guest conducting engagements nationally and internationally. He has served as guest conductor for the Musashino Academia of Music in Tokyo, Japan in 1990,1992,1995,1998,1999 and will return again in the summer of 2001. A native of Illinois, Mr. Cramer has a D.M and B.A. from Western Illinois University and a M.M. from the University of Iowa. He has taught at Indiana University for 31 years.

PhiBetaMu

Phi Beta Mu is the highest honorary international band directors' fraternity. It was organized to encourage the building of better bands and the development of better musicians in school throughout the world and to foster deeper appreciation of good music and more widespread public interest.

Gamma Chapter of Phi Beta Mu was organized and the charter members initiated on November 27. 1953. at the state convention of the Indiana Music Educators Association. There are presently 93 acti~e members in the state of Indiana.
