Overnight at hotelRanthanbhore: Ranthambhor National Park, once a princely game conserve is the scene where the celebrated Indian tigers are best seen. Ranthambhor Tiger Reserve lies on the junction of Aravali and VindhyasA tenth century fort also blends amicably with the background. Pure sands of Dhok (Anogeissus pendula) interspersed with grasslands at the plateaus, meadows in valleys and luxuriant foliage around the canals make the jungle. The tiger is not the only attraction at Ranthambhor; although it is the one park resident people come to see. We were lucky to see several varieties of birds including these owlets peering through their burrows pictured here on the right and of course the ubiquitous langur monkey. Other animals in the reserve include leopard, caracal, hyena, jackal, jungle cat, marsh crocodiles, wild boar, bears and various species of deer.The main food source for the tiger is the swamp deer like Barasinsga and on occasion the wild buffalo and also wild boar. Earlier Pondicherry was the major French trading post but later it became part of the Anglo-French hostilities. Today, it is a provincial town with a distinctive French character. The new city of Auroville, built by the followers of the 20th century saint Sri Aurobindo is located nearby Pondicherry. Tamil and French are the common languages which are spoken in Pondicherry.

Day 5 Pondicherry – Thanjavur drive 174km/4hrsAfter breakfast sightseeing of Pondicherry then drive to Thanjavur, transfer to hotel. The Tamil University has been set up recently in Thanjavur and devoted to the growth of Tamil literature and language. The best season to visit Thanjavur is throughout the year. Day 6 Thanjavur – Trichi drive 70km/2hrsAfter breakfast at hotel sightseeing of Thanjavur then drive to Trichi, transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel.Trichi: Tiruchirapalli, also known as Trichy, Tiruchy and Thiruchi, is only about 53 kms from Thanjavur. Day 7 Trichi – Madurai drive 145km/3hrsAfter breakfast at hotel sightseeing of Trichi then drive to Madurai, transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel.Madurai: Madurai, the city of Nectar is located in the south of Tamil Nadu. It is the second largest city in the state of Tamil Nadu. It is also considered as an important cultural and commercial centre of Tamil Nadu. Madurai is located on the banks of the river Vaigai. Madurai is bounded on the north by the district of Dindigul, on the east by Sivagangai, on the west by Theni and south by Virudhunagar. Madurai is situated at an altitute of 100.58 meters above the sea level and covers an area of 3741.73 square km. Madurai city has 3 hills as its city boundary mainly, Yanaimalai, Nagamalai, Pasumalai named after Elephant, Snake and Cow respectively. The city has been called the "Athens of the East" because of its great architecture and meticulous planning, comparable to that of the Greek capital.

Day 8 Madurai – Periyar drive 139km/3hrsAfter breakfast at hotel sightseeing of Madurai, then drive to Thekkady ( Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary ), transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel.Periyar: If you want guaranteed wildlife sightings at Periyar you have to do one or preferably both of the following:Go on the early morning first boat ride of the day and book the Upper Deck seats. The boat leaves at 6am or 7am depending on season, and you will most definitely see elephants at the edge of the lake, wild boar, deer and an assortment of birds. Anything else is possible and your luck! The Upper Deck is very important for a better view. The boat can get crowded in season so book in advance if possible.Go on a jungle walk accompanied [compulsorily] by a tribal guide from the information centre near the boat jetty. The rates are extremely reasonable and if you pay the full charges you can go for as long or as short a walk as you want. Chances of elephant sighting are high. Guaranteed sightings of giant malabar squirrels, assorted deer, lion tailed macaque, black langurs, huge butterflies like the troides minos - southern birdwing which is the largest in India, helens, mormons etc and a wide variety of birds.
