CASTAGNA t The objective of the project is to achieve better international under- standing through prompt exchange among INTAMEL members of information on important current writing in various countries. The specific goal was to improve the supply of significant current publications to readers in the large metropolitan public libraries, especially writing which reflects present trends and developments in all the fields of intellectual endeavour--literary, scientific, political, economic, cultural, and social--from the various countries and regions of the world. This must be looked upon as a fragmentary beginning to the project. All INTAMEL library members were sent questionnaires. Responses came from 28 libraries in 12 countries. It is hoped that future lists may be more comprehensive and representative of all parts of the world. As this list is distributed to INTAMEL members they are asked to be prepared to respond next year in greater numbers to the questionnaires which will be sent.
