The experience with barges on the south bound Danube
Import, trade with raw materials for
animal feed
Production of compound animal feed, TMR, crude oil, pelletizing of wheat bran,
agricultural production, trade with grain and raw materials for animal feed
Export, trade with raw materials for
animal feed
Danube river
• 2 852 km, second largest in Europe• 10 European countries• 2 415 km navigable river area
Connection North sea - Black sea through RMD canal
Advantages of the river transport
Cost effectiveness ✔ • for infrastructure - does not require huge capital investments in the
construction of its track, as it is an existing part of the nature
• for transportation – the most cost effective way of transport, compared with railway and trucks
Advantages of the river transport Large capacities ✔
• the largest carrying capacity for carrying goods in bulk over long distances
Energy efficiency ✔• the most energy efficient way of transport, compared with railway and
trucks
Environmentally friendly ✔• ecologically the most appropriate way of transportation• causes 70% less CO2 emission than transportation by road
Safety of navigation ✔• the risks of accidents are minimum • lower traffic• less congestions
Advantages of the river transport
Disadvantages
- Dependence of meteorological conditionsMain problem of the
river navigation
influence on the carrying capacity
influence on the operating cost
influence on the speed
influence on the scheduled ETA
Disadvantages
- Transit time• relatively long transit time due to relatively slow
speed
Dunafoldvar, Hungary -Constanta, Romania
• Transit 15 / 20 days
Constanta, Romania
• Transshipment 5 / 6 daysConstanta, Romania –
Turkish ports• Transit 3 / 4 days
Turkish ports• Analysis performance 3 / 4 days• Unloading 3 / 4 days
Receipt of the cargo in 1 month term
Other factors, influencing south bound navigation
• Grain campaign o the increasing of the freight volume marks an increase in river
units demando the harvest characteristics ( quality, prices ) effect the navigation
• Returning cargoes from the North side o coal, fertilizers, metal
ConclusionsThe complex procedure of the river transportation of goods and their
transshipment on sea vessels requires: • Dealing with multiple priorities and effective management of the transport
chain – river, maritime, by road• Constant contact and cooperation between the business partners• The everyday information about vessel’s movement, the conditions,
influencing it and the ship owner’s program help to estimate the ETA, i.e. improve the planning and keep the further logistics plan
• Crucial is the coordination in the intermediary port of the arrival and handling of the barges and sea vessel at the same time - considering the weather and navigation conditions both on Danube and Black sea, the traffic intensity and passage planning of the straits, the schedule of the last unloading port of the sea vessel, the schedule of Constanta port
• In order to be successful executed, high level of communication, cooperation, coordination and professionalism must be maintained by all parties involved
Sea vessels, which we
often use for DDGS
transshipment
