“I give you a new commandment: love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” John 13:34-35

In an effort to reach out to our brothers and sisters who speak Spanish and are not able to attend Sunday Mass at their parish due to illness, age, or other issues, the Archdiocese offers the transmission of the Sunday Mass in Spanish. This is an archdiocesan ministry offered in collaboration with the Office of Hispanic Ministry and the Office of Worship and Christian Initiation. The Spanish TV Mass airs every Sunday at 7:00 am on Univision Channel 41 on regular TV, and Channel 15 on Cable (check your individual TV signal provider for other channels). The Sunday Mass in Spanish can also be seen online any day and at any time by accessing www.noticiasnuevomexico.com and searching for La Misa Catolica.

It’s not possible for even the most astute law enforcement official to have memorized every law he is subject to. The catalog of federal, state, and local laws is simply too great. Volumes of legal code cover everything from street parking to espionage, from hunt-ing waterfowl to truancy, from drunk driving to emission stardards. Laws and ordinances abound, yet the vast majority of us go about our business each day without much of a nod to their existence. A speed limit sign may catch our attention (especially if there are flasing lights behind us). We might also keep strict compliance with our local recycling laws because it makes us feel meritorious. But generally speaking we follow the law without actually knowing all of it. Today’s Gospel takes place during the Last Supper. Judas had left and the other disciples were listening to Jesus. It is in this context that he gives them a new commandment: “Love one another. As I have loved you, so you also should love one another. This is how all will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.” There is the law that we must observe if we are to consider ourselves to be disciples, that is, followers of Jesus. We don’t need to memorize the entire US Code or all the laws of the state in which we live to stay in compliance with the law. In the same way it is no longer necessary for us to remember all of the laws and ordinances in the Books of Leviticus, or Numbers, or Deuteronomy. We have a new law given to us by Christ. We are to “love one another.” Those three words certainly have far reaching implications. We have guid-ance on how to follow Christ from the church. In our daily activities we have to act on what is the most loving thing to do.

You Did it for Me Imagine having the same meal every day, for every meal: just bread and tea. This is life for Bonu and her three children in the poor village of Monjoy Kone in Afghanistan. The monotony is only bro-ken once a year when a local charity gives the family lamb or goat for the Eid holiday. But mealtimes will soon get much tastier and healthier for Bonu and her family. CRS has helped Bonu build a keyhole garden: a simple raised-bed garden, where she can grow vegetables year-round. Bonu is growing radishes, lettuce and tur-nips. “Now I’ll be able to give vegetables to my children,” she smiles.

Nativity Parish is organizing a reunion of all the former students who attended Nativity School from 1961 to 1971.
