Metal Injection Molded (MIM) parts& Powdered Metal (P/M) parts
Division of Iscar LTD. Company, located in Tefen, Israel
Metal Injection Molding (MIM) & Powdered Metal (P/M), with extensive secondary finishing capability.
High volume parts with tolerances less than 1µm (.00004 in.).
In-house engineering, tool & automated machine design
In-house from powder to finished part AS-9100 & ISO 9001:2000 certified
IMC-Microtools
Combines material flexibility of powdered metal with design flexibility of plastic injection molding
Parts that are good candidates for Metal Injection Molding (MIM):◦ High volume (5,000 pcs/yr to millions of pcs./yr)◦ Complex and/or intricate geometry◦ Tight tolerances (±0.3% of the dimension)◦ Small part size◦ Excellent surface finish required◦ High material density/excellent mechanical properties
required (>97% of the theoretical density)◦ Uniform wall thicknesses with fillet radii & draft
acceptable◦ One flat side or able to rest unsupported◦ Low unit cost
Why MIM?
Parts that are good candidates for Powdered Metal:◦ High hardness and/or wear resistance – difficult to machine
materials.◦ Part geometry favorable to one axis pressing (i.e. no undercuts,
re-entrant cuts, or threaded features)◦ Less than 5 variations in cross section thickness◦ projected surface area—less than 50 in.² (32,000 mm²) ◦ diameter of less than 7 in. (185 mm) or up to 12 in. (300 mm)
for parts with a large bore ◦ length of 6 in. (75 mm) maximum, 0.060 in. (1.5 mm) minimum ◦ Length/diameter ratio of 5:1 maximum; length/wall thickness
ratio of 8:1 maximum◦ Extremely tight tolerances – down to 1µm (.00004”).
