He has defined the selection criteria for the application of EMG biofeedback to restore upper extremity function among chronic patients with stroke. These findings became the inclusion criteria for most constraint induced movement therapy stroke studies. He recently completed his role as Principal Investigator for the NIH nationally funded EXCITE Trial, the first multi-center Phase III non–surgical, non-pharmacological, upper extremity stroke rehabilitation study ever funded by the NIH. Steven‘s interests in feedback also led to the comparison of center of pressure biofeedback with Tai Chi for falls reduction in older adults. He has over 200 publications and 600 national and international presentations on these topics. Michael Weinrich, MD Director National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research Michael Weinrich is Director of the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research in the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development at NIH. He received his undergraduate and medical education at Harvard University, trained in medicine and neurology at the University of Chicago Hospitals and Clinics and in neurophysiology at the National Institutes of Health. While on the faculty at Stanford University, he developed a computer system to help
stroke patients recover speech and language. Acting on the Opportunities
Lucy M. Robbins Caregiver Lucy Robbins is a caregiver because she is the step-mother of a severely brain injured son. She has learned to take care of him as he was unable to continue to live independently and is, therefore, living with Lucy and her husband, at home. There is no brain injury facility for him to go to where he could be looked after in a supportive environment. Lucy has learned about medicines, therapeutic exercises, scheduling, nutrition and emotional support to name a few, not to mention coping with a "new" normal for her son, herself and the entire family. Lucy and her husband work as a team on their son's continued recovery.

Peter W. Robbins Caregiver Peter Robbins is the father of a 37 year old brain injured son, living at home, resulting in his non-professionally trained caregiver status. Peter‘s son sustained a TBI 4 years ago. He spent 9½ weeks in a New Zealand hospital, 6½ months at Spaulding Rehab and was discharged to homecare (placement in a SNF environment was personally not an option). As his caregiver/advocates Peter and his wife assembled a team of interacting therapists, who for the past 3 years have made significant contributions to the recovery progress, the most remarkable being the PTs. Through their dedication,

Marc Goldstein, EdD Director, Research Services American Physical Therapy Association Marc Goldstein has been a member of the APTA staff since 1987. Originally Associate Director, Department of Education, he was promoted to Director of the newly created Department of Research Services in 1990.
