Part I : Processor Removal Procedure

1. Shut down the computer. Unplug allcables, including the power cable. Wait

ve (5) minutes or components tocool.

2. Set the computer, screen down, on aso t, clean cloth so that the bottom o the computer is acing you. Do this,pre erably, in a clean, dry, well-lit area.Remove I/O cover.

3. Loosen captive screw on access coverinside the handle.

4. Using the handle, quickly jerk thelower access cover up and towardsyou .

NOTE: The cover is difcult to remove.An abrupt tug upward is required toremove the cover.

5. Remove the two (2) screws at the top o the logic board/mass storage chassis.Put the screws in a sa e place.

6. Disconnect the screw clamp and irDA cable.

7. Disconnect the RGB cable. 8. Disconnect the audio and main power cables.

10. Place Mass Storage Chassis on table asshown.

9. Using the handle, pull up on the chassisand slide the logic board/mass storagechassis out o the unit.

11. Remove the top shield rom the

processor card.

12. Pry the heatsink clip of the processor

shield rame.

IMPORTANT: To avoid electrostatic discharge, alwaysground yourself by touching bare metal before you touchany parts or install any components inside the computer.

14. Li t the heatsink of the processor card.Caution: Heatsink may be hot.

13. Remove the heatsink clip.

15. Pry the processor card rom the logicboard connectors.

CAUTION:Heatsink May Be Hot.

18. Pull the RAM DIMM out. I there isanother RAM DIMM on the backside o the processor, repeat steps 17 & 18.

17. Pull the metal snap on either side o theRAM DIMM outward.

19. Place processor in Anti-Static bag. Sendto FastMac.

Part II: Upgraded Processor Installation Procedure

Part II: Upgraded Processor Card Reinstallation Procedure:Estimated time: 20 min

1. Remove upgraded Processor Card romAnti-Static bag.

2. Reinsert the RAM DIMM(s). Snap intoplace. Make sure the metal snaps aresecure. Repeat on backside i installingmore than one RAM DIMM.

5. Place the heatsink on the processor card.

6. Reattach the heatsink clip. Make sure

that the heatsink is rmly held in placeby the clip.

4. Snap into place.

3. Reseat the Upgraded Processor Card.

7. Reattach the top shield to the shieldrame.

8. Holding by the handle, slide the logicboard/mass storage chassis back into theunit.

9. Reconnect the main power cable.

10. Reconnect the audio cable.

Part II: Upgraded Processor Installation Procedure 0

13. Replace the two (2) screws at the top o the logic board/mass storage chassis.

12. Reconnect the screw clamp and irDAcable..

14. Reattach the lower access cover bysliding it back into place. Press on thecover to secure it.

15. Tighten captive screw on access coverinside the handle.

17. Place your iMac in the upright position.

18. Reconnect all the cables to your iMac,including power

19. You may now restart your computer.

Your G4 Upgrade is now complete andyour computer is ready to use.

However, i you are running OS X, readthe note to the right.

19OS X Users

I you are running OS X, we recommendreinstalling your OS.

During the installation process certainles and libraries speci cally made to take

advantage o the G4 chip are installed upondetection o a G4 processor. I OS X wasinstalled be ore being upgraded, these leswere not included. To get the ull bene t o the G4 chip, reinstallation o OS X is needed.
