Many foundries are implementing Kaizen for becoming competitive in the global scenario. IIF would like to bring out the best Kaizen implemented so that it benefits the Indian foundry industry as a whole. The excellent work done inside foundries is otherwise hidden, if not given a good exposure.

The best kaizen award in the form of a trophy will be awarded to total 3 winner organisations.

Area for KaizenNominations can be submitted for kaizen implemented in the area of : Foundry Operations, Energy Savings, Yield Improvement, Logistics Loss Improvement, Management Practices, Rework Minimisation, Downtime Minimisation, Changeover Time Minimisation, Efficiency Improvement, Design Improvement, Use of New Materials to enhance performance of cast products, Product Development

initiatives in terms of weight reduction and increased strength.

GuidelinesNominations have to be submitted in the PowerPoint presentation format as follows :Slide 1 Company Profile Brief about your organisation, Kaizen culture of organisation - No. of Kaizen received and implemented.Slide 2 Kaizen Team Names of the Key persons involved Slide 3-4 Kaizen Theme / Problem Description /Problem Definition

Describe through a brief abstract of the problem/present status

IIF Annual AwardsSlide 5-7 Data Collection & Root Cause Analysis Why-Why analysis to find out the real root cause of the problem. Mention the Real Root cause of the problem

Slide 8-9 Kaizen idea & Countermeasure / Solution The idea mooted by the employee to be mentioned. The action plan attempted to eliminate the Root cause.

Slide 10-11 Countermeasure Implementation & Sustenance Paste appropriate photographs to show the before and after status. Since how long the countermeasures are implemented.

Slide 12 Horizontal Deployment To indicate the potential areas of replicating the Kaizen and if so replicated, the no. of places and total benefit.

Slide 13-14 Results & Benefit Indicate the qualitative and quantitative savings that the kaizen has yielded.

Slide 15 Kaizen sheet

No. of slides should not be more than 15 in any case.

Evaluation Criteria

Nominations will be evaluated based on :

1. Clarity of the problem and its severity - 10 points

2. Root Cause Analysis 10 Points

3. Solution 10 points

4. Time taken to implement 10 points

5. Savings – Monitory / Time / Process 20 points / Qualitative

6. Implementation Success & 20 points Sustenance

7. Horizontal Deployment 10 points

8. Team / Individual contribution 10 points

Total 100 points

Rules

1. Only Company Members can send their nomination. 2. Each Company member can send only one

Nomination.3. All nominations must be as per the prescribed

guidelines only.4. Nominations should be submitted in soft copy as

well as hard copy.5. The problem identified should not be more than 3

years old.6. IIF may depute a team to visit the foundry to

evaluate the nomination.7. Please submit the nomination in the IIF Foundry

Kaizen Award Nomination Sheet which can be downloaded from www.indianfoundry.org

ObjectiveMany of the Indian foundries have been successfully adopting 5S practices. The fully implemented 5S practices: increase morale, increase in efficiency, less waste, better quality and faster lead time that will make an organisation more profitable and competitive in the market place.

To motivate and recognise the member companies, IIF has initiated 5S Excellence Award.

Categories of AwardThe 5S Excellence Award in the form of a trophy will be awarded to the winner company members in three categories -

IIF 5S exCellenCe AwArd (Open for Company Members only)

l Small-Scale Foundries

l Medium-Scale Foundries

l Large-Scale Foundries

Evaluation Criteria Nominations will be evaluated based on:

1. Stages Completed 5 points

2. Before & after “5S” photographs 10 points (min. 5 areas)

3. 5S manual, if any 5 points

4. Organisation structure for 5S 5 points

6. Waste disposal procedures and efforts to follow sound environmental practices 20 points

7. Implementation steps adopted 20 points

Rules :1. Interested company members should send self-

assessment form (available from www.indianfoundry.org) along with supporting documents.

2. Nominations should be submitted in soft copy as well as hard copy.

3. Companies falling under MSME category must submit their registration certificate.

4. IIF may depute a team to visit the foundry to evaluate the nomination.
