January has come and gone already! Interior Heavy Equipment Operator School

anticipates another busy year with multiple Industry leaders and private organizations

already making contact with us. It is exciting to strategize on how best to work together to

meet the training demand for heavy equipment operators.

Both of our AB & BC Training Sites grew by more than 50% in 2012. We added 17+

new machines to our Fleet to ensure our core belief in students never sharing equipment

was met at all times ! The great thing about being a privately-owned and operated business

since 2005, is our immediate ability to adapt to any given need.

Whether we are working with an individual, or we are working with large

companies, IHE customer service is always paramount to us. Ensuring that we continue to

develop win-win relationships is a continued focus for IHE in 2013.

We are proud to say a large majority of our 1,800+ IHE Grad Alumni are enjoying careers today as heavy

equipment operators! In fact, many stay in touch years after training and there is even now an active group on

Facebook sharing job leads, called the ‘IHE Smooth Operators.’

We will also be hosting once again our Open Houses in May at both training sites, only this year in

conjunction with Career /Hiring Fairs. Stay tuned for more details!

IHE visits Terrace, BC on April 24th to 26th for the annual Minerals North Conference - the largest one in

western Canada. We are a Silver Sponsor of the event and look forward to working with more community

leaders and stakeholders of the North.

I can confidently say that what remains a defining factor in IHE Grads getting hired is their ability to enter

the workforce as trained entry-level machine operators. That is something they are able to achieve by practicing

real world tasks on their own machines, while training at IHE. Our success as an organization always has and

always will rely on the success of the individuals we train, the companies that employ them, and the various

funding organizations that work together to turn dreams into reality.

IHE CongratulatEs KEVIn & DarCY …

As IHE School continues to expand, so does our staff! Please join us all in congratulating Kevin Bur-

ton on his recent promotion to Operations Manager!! Kevin’s dedication and leadership were just a few

items noted in making this decision.

“I am very excited as IHE moves forward into new markets,” said General Manager, Mike Hansen.

“This cannot be achieved without a great team, and I am confident that this promotion will further enhance

this effort.”

Kevin offers 24 years’ experience in civil/road construction, pipeline, open pit mining, and five years work

experience as a consultant for the oil sands, as well as construction projects in Dubai.

He also had the opportunity of travelling to ground zero at the world trade centre after 911 in 2001 as a

rescue/recovery equipment operator.

“After achieving my professional goals over my career, I knew it was time to spread my knowledge to

present and future operators thus becoming an part of IHE. I look forward to continuing my journey here,”

reflects Kevin.

School District No. 23 Boot Camp 2012, Central Okanagan

28 students + 28 Equipment Stations + 2 Equipment rotation circuit

HANDS ON FUN experience operating heavy equipment machines

IHE School in partnership with School District #23, played host to a very special weekend for

Okanagan high school students last September. Students curious about a possible career as a

heavy equipment operator had the chance to try out a variety of machines including: Rubber Tire

Backhoe, Dozer, Loader, Grader Excavator, A.R.T. Truck, as well as a Laser Level, Hydraulics &

Welding station, completing real world tasks over the two-day rotation cycle.

“Being a part of inspiring youth to follow their dreams is exciting,” says IHE General Manger,

Mike Hansen. “We were happy to donate the equipment and land. The real thanks goes out to the

hard work of the organizing committee members, and the more than 30 IHE students who volun-

teered on their own personal time to help coordinate every machine operator station! Because of

them, just like at IHE, no student had to share a machine with another. We’re proud of that!”
