IGCSE ORIENTATION

Education is not filling the mind with a lot of

facts. Perfecting the instrument and getting

complete mastery of my own mind

[is the ideal of education]

– Swami Vivekananda

• WHAT IS IGCSE?

• WHY IGCSE?

• HOW DO WE GO ABOUT IT?

THE IGCSE

PROGRAMME

• The International General Certificate

of Secondary Education (IGCSE) is an

academically rigorous, internationally used &

specialised English language curriculum

• Schools in about 160 countries offer this

programme

WHAT IS IGCSE?

• Cambridge IGCSE offers a flexible and stimulating

curriculum

• IGCSE helps improve performance by developing skills

in creative thinking, enquiry and problem solving.

• The syllabuses are international in outlook, but retain a

local relevance.

WHAT IS IGCSE?

• Encourages high academic standards through a practical approach to teaching and learning.

• Assessment is not limited to conventional written papers and they consist of a variety of tests; e.g. oral and listening tests.

• Most subjects offer a choice between core curriculum and extended curriculum.

WHY IGCSE?

• This gives students of all ability levels the freedom to

choose subjects that are right for them and, thereby, the

opportunity to score good grades.

WHY IGCSE?

IGCSE

The extended curriculum is

like a specialisation in that

subject. It is more challenging

and designed for students

who are expected to achieve

grades A+ to C.

The core curriculum is an

overview of the subject and is

suitable for students who are

expected to achieve grades

C to G.
