1st Language activityI wonder – Jeannie Kirby
• Procedure:1. Teacher chooses certain phrases or lines from
the poem.2. Teacher crosses out certain nouns and ask the
students to replace the nouns with appropriate nouns that fit in meaningfully.
3. By the end of this activity, students learn word substitution and widen their current vocabulary.
Example activity
• I wonder why the _____ is green,– Leaf, car, house, etc.
• Who taught the ____ to build a _____,– Contractor and building, child and sand castle, etc.
• O, when the ____ is not quite round,– Ball, earth, clock, etc.
• Who lights the ____,– Candle, cigarette, torch, etc.

• Procedure:1. Teacher tells students to take out a piece of paper.2. Teacher tells students to draw a table that consists
of 2 columns. The first row entitled Nouns, the second as Verb.
3. Teacher tells the students to fill in as many nouns and verbs they can find in the poem.
4. By the end of this activity, students are able to distinguish basic grammar elements which are nouns and verbs.

• Procedure: 1. Teacher tells each student to underline a selected verb
from the poem.2. Teacher tells students to construct a grammatical sentence
using the verb of choice.3. Teacher randomly selects a number of students to act out
the action of the sentence they constructed.4. By the end of this activity, students are able to distinguish
verbs from the poem, improve sentence structure knowledge, and in the same time improve oral competence by speaking and applying English language practically through role-play.

• Asnira taught me how to cook.• Aida lights a candle because it is too dark.
