Celebrating our 135th Anniversary! The Kennicott Brothers Employee Newsletter October 14th, 2016 Employee Owned…It makes a difference! Kaleidoscope Hurricane Matthew Hits Florida Greens Growers http://www.ferndamage.com/ The central Florida area where most of our Florida greens are grown was devastated by Hurricane Matthew last weekend. Thankfully none of the growers or their families were injured to our knowledge. However there was extensive damage to their property and crops. Losses of current crops ranged up to 75%. When greens in the current pipeline run out, there will be an acute shortage of leather leaf fern and most other Florida greens for the next few months, especially at Valentine’s Day. We anticipate very substantial increases in prices as the market forces of supply and demand come into play. Projections from many growers are that they will not be able to return to normal production until Mother’s Day or after. ———————————————————— Click in on the link above to see the damage and recovery of many of the major fern farms in Volusia County and the surrounding areas including: Albin Hagstrom & Son, Alpha Fern Company, Forest Grove Ferneries, Fern Trust, Ronald Jones Ferneries, and WM. In particu- lar, their local Volusia fern farms produce a majority of the fern and floral greenery used throughout the florist industry in the US and in major foreign countries. The central Florida area where most of our Florida greens are grown was devastated by Hurricane Matthew last weekend.

We anticipate very substantial increases in prices as the market forces of supply

and demand come into play.

Projections from many growers are that they will not be able to return to normal production until Mother’s Day or after. ————————————————————

Jones Ferneries, and WM. F. Puckett Ferneries.

The local farm community in every city and state are working hard to provide quality products to consumers throughout the United States and around the world. In particu-lar, their local Volusia fern farms produce a majority of the fern and floral greenery

used throughout the florist industry in the US and in major foreign countries. The local farms are an engine of growth and opportunity for not only their local community but

thousands of communities!

Petal It Forward Happens Next Wednesday!

Cubs fans receiving flowers from Dan Andrews during last year's "Petal It Forward day”

Atlanta, Minneapolis, Grand Rapids, Indianapolis, Chicago & Waukegan (IL) are among many U.S. cities where area florists will be brightening the days of random passersby on October 19. It’s all par t of the nationwide ‘Petal it

Forward’ program, in partnership with the Society of American Florists (SAF) of which Kennicott Brothers is a member. Each Petal It Forward team (driven

primarily by our florist customers) is not only spreading happiness to lucky peo-ple who receive the flowers, but arming these recipients with the tools they need to Petal it Forward and spread happiness to others: An extra flower bouquet to share with a loved one, coworker or even a stranger. Recipients are asked to

spread the happiness by gifting their extra bouquet, then sharing selfies on so-cial media tagging #petalitforward.

We are looking forward to another great event this year, and thank our partici-pating customers: K Mike Whittle Unique Floral Designs (Atlanta), St. Cloud

Floral & Gifts (Twin Cities), Lindskoog Florist (Twin Cities), CityScents Floral & Home (Chicago), Ashland Addison Florist (Chicago), The Posh Posie Petaler (Waukegan), Zionsville Flower Company (Indianapolis), Banner Flower House

(Indianapolis), and Kennedy’s Flowers & Gifts (Grand Rapids).

This is a testimony to the overtly harsh and demeaning cruelty of slavery during the early 19th century. It's not surprising that it led to something like the Nat Turner

Rebellion. I give it three and three quarter roses.
