who we are andwhat we do.The Humane Society of Bay County is a 501 (c) 3non-profit no-kill animal shelter for local animals,helping to reduce animal overpopulation & abusethrough adoption, spaying/neutering, & education.

• Adoptions - The Humane Society of Bay Countyadoptsoutnearly400+catsanddogseachyear.All adop-tions are $100 for dogs and $75 for cats and require thecompletion of an adoption survey and brief counselingfrom our adoption staff. All animals go home ful-ly vaccinated, spayed/neutered, and micro-chipped.

• Humane Education -Ourhumaneeducationpro-gram teaches children and adults about people and pets.Presentations and educational support materials includeservices of HSBC, responsible pet ownership, pet needs,safety for and around animals, and pet overpopulations.

• Special Events - HSBC has a very solid reputa-tion in theBayCountycommunityandattendsmany localeventsatwhichweshowcaseanimalsavailableforadoption,handouteducationalmaterials,andpromoteourprograms.

• Fundraisers - Because HSBC receives no govern-ment funding,we rely ondonations frommembers of thecommunity to supportourprograms.Our two largest fun-draisers are our annual“Barkin’ onThe Bay” event on BayPoint Marina and our annual “Calendar Friends” in whichthe public votes on on the cutest animals pictures (sub-mitted online or at our events) to include in our calendar.

to bay ave.TheHumaneSocietyofBayCountyhasrelocateditscurrentshelterandthriftstoreoperationsat1048West23rdStreet,PanamaCitytotwoseparatelocations.Wewereable to leaseboth locations for nearly the same amountwepaid for rent on 23rdStreet.Aftertwoyearsofhousingtheanimalsforadoptionwithinourretailstore,therightplace,therightpriceandtherighttimehasarrived.Thisisashortterm"puppystep"whilewecontinuetoworktowardssecuringthefundingtorepairthemainshel-teronBayAvenue,whichisenvironmentallyunsafe,bothtohumansandanimals.

The location for the animals is the former CedarGroveAnimalHospitalat2620E.15thStreetacrosstheroadfromCoinandBullionReserve.Thevetfa-cilityisbettersuitedtoaccommodatetheneedsoftheanimalsanditwillallowtheHSBCtotakeinap-proximately70animals,doublethecapacityat thepresentlocationon23rdStreet.The15thStreet lo-cationhasfullsizedogrunsandafencedinoutdoorarea.Thecattery thatwasbuiltoverayearago for

thepurposeofgivingthecatsanexerciseandsocialspacewillberelocatedtothenewfacility.TheclinicalsohasasurgeryroomanditisoneofthefuturegoalsoftheHSBC,toutilizethesurgeryroomforlowcostspay/neuterevents.

TheThriftandGiftstorewillberelocatedto1408Harri-sonAvenue,almostacrosstheroadfromDan-DDonutsjustpasttheTallyHoDrive-InDinerifturningontoHar-rison from15thStreet.The retail spacewillmore thandouble andwill provide plenty of room for themuchneededfurnituredonations.ThenewThriftandGiftlo-cationwillbesignificantlyeasiertoaccessandalsoof-fersalternateroutingtotrafficlights.
