Course Information
Description This course will cover the basics in providing a clean and safe environment. Topics include basic housekeeping practices, laundering procedures and simple maintenance tasks required within the guidelines of facility policies and procedures and comply with OSHA, state and federal regulations. Prerequisites; HSS 1000 and acceptance into the program.

Course Competencies
1 Identify infection control procedures related to the role of the HSS in environmental services
Learning Objectives
Definition infection control procedures related to long term care.
Identify organisms commonly found, such as: Bacilli - MRSA, VRE Virus - HIV, Hepatitis A, B, C, Aids, Flu Fungus.
Identify transmission of diseases.
Describe the chain of infection.
Identify Asepsis.
Apply contamination techniques.

Identify basic chemicals used in infection control.
Demonstrate hand washing.
Demonstrate proper way to use gloves.
Identify Universal Precautions.
Describe what are blood borne pathogens.
2 Utilize the OSHA guidelines when learning basic housekeeping facility policies and procedures
Learning Objectives
Develop a housekeeping and laundry schedule.
Develop a residential housekeeping check form.
Apply cleaning skills utilizing proper chemicals following OSHA guidelines.
Identify environmental practices for maintaining resident living areas, public areas and laundry.
3 Identify chemicals used within the facilities for cleaning purposes and follow facility policies and procedures
Learning Objectives
Label cleaning chemicals within facility following facility environment service policies.
Identify which chemicals cannot be mixed together.
Identify use of each chemical.
Apply understanding of chemicals used for each area within the facility.
