HAPPENINGS
HR CONTACT SPOTLIGHT Name: Chad Gothreaux
Hometown: Sco , LA
Educa on: B.A. Poli cal Science, LSU; Master’s in Public Administra on, LSU.
What do you do in your department, including job tle and area? I am the Assistant Dean for Finance and Administra on in the College of Human Sciences and Educa on. In my role I provide broad‐based financial management and administra ve leadership to the college, its schools, and support offices. I also provide advice and counsel to the Dean and school leadership on subjects ranging from resource and space alloca ons, strategic planning, entrepreneurial ini a ves, human resources and personnel issues, policy implica ons, and other administra ve ma ers.
How long have you been with LSU? I have essen ally grown up as an employee at LSU star ng my first job as a student worker in the LSYOU Program in August of 1988. I con nued working at LSYOU as a graduate assistant while pursuing my MPA degree, and then was hired as the program’s business manager in 1994.
What is the strangest thing you’ve ever run across in your HR career? Beginning with my me in LSYOU, I o en dealt with unique hires to provide services, ac vi es and ini a ves for its at‐risk, high‐school‐aged par cipants which always seemed to present challenges to the university’s standard opera ng procedures. It was through these many experiences that I learned the true essence of the staff at LSU. Each me I presented a problem or a complex situa on, I encountered a staff member who was willing to help “figure it out.” I learned that at LSU, you can always find a problem‐solver on the other end of the phone.
What do you like most about working at LSU? With a last name like Gothreaux, people o en ask me where I’m from. When I tell them that I am from Sco , Louisiana – a li le town in Cajun Country just west of Lafaye e – and that I currently live there and have been commu ng to LSU since 1995, the reac on is o en the same. “You drive back and forth every day… Why do you do that?” The answer is simple… my home and heritage may be there, but I love this university. Collec vely, the staff of LSU has demonstrated tremendous dedica on and unwavering loyalty to our flagship university. These efforts have, in no small measure, enabled the university to thrive despite con nued erosion of state support. It has been so very rewarding to be counted as a member of the team.
Tell us something interes ng about yourself. I have had the privilege to serve as an LSU Staff Senator since 2005 and previously as its president in 2009‐2010. It is with an incredible sense of honor that on July 1, I began my term as LSU Staff Senate president for 2012‐2013. I also cook a mean chicken and sausage gumbo and am know for impor ng (from Sco , Boudin Capital of the World) the best boudin and boudin balls on the planet!

Happy New Year! Many people have made their New Year’s resolu on to lose weight, exercise more or have healthier ea ng habits. Here are a few ideas and ps to help you reach your goal!!
Keep Your Resolution in Check! Start small. Most people try to do too much in the beginning. Then they get injured on gym equipment, feel over red from too much exer on or decide they don't have enough me. Instead, build success by se ng small goals, 10 minutes a day even, then add me gradually.
Give yourself a break. There will be mes when you don't exercise. Ge ng off track is a normal part of behavioral change. Don't beat yourself up, but do commit to star ng fresh tomorrow. “Keep Your New Year’s Fitness Resolutions” - Hitchedmag.com
