The Hardy Plant Society President: Roy Lancaster Hardy Plant Society Somerset Group The Hardy Plant Society, formed in 1957 by the late Alan Bloom, has an active membership in both the UK and overseas. Its aim is to expand the knowledge of hardy plants and how to get the best from them. Society members are entitled to join Regional Groups offering programme activities at local level (see panel opposite) and to join Specialist Groups with an interest in particular plant types. A Correspondents Group caters for those who are unable to attend meetings and events. A well-produced Journal is issued in Spring and Autumn, with informed articles written by experienced plants people. Newsletters are also issued during the year. Members benefit from a valuable seed distribution scheme. 4 Mar: Coach trip: Orchid Festival at Kew Gardens. Combined coach and entry price is £36.00 for those aged 60 and over, £37.70 for everyone else.

28 Mar: HPS Somerset Early Spring Plant Fair – 10 AM – 4 PM. East Lambrook Manor Gardens. Admission: £4.00 (£3.50 HPS members).

25 Apr: Group Plant Sale. 10 AM – 12.30 PM, West Monkton Village Hall. Admission £1.

2/3 Jun: Self Drive Visit: The Chittenden’s beautiful garden, Vellacott, Lawford, Crowcombe, Taunton, TA4 4AL. Entry £3 per person.

16 Jun: Self-Drive Visit to Westbrook House, West Bradley, BA6 8LS.Entry: £10 per person, including refreshments.

All lectures are at West Monkton Village Hall, TA2 8NE and start at 10:30 for 11:00 AM unless stated otherwise.

All coach trips, tour & visits MUST be pre-booked as some have limited numbers.
