How to Use Picnik.com to Resize Photos for Website Upload

Have you had a need to resize photos or images in order to present them in the

dimension and file size you want on your website? Picnik.com is a website service thatcan allow you to adjust your images in just about any manner you want.

As you are probably aware, most digital photographs and graphics are fairly high qualitywhen stored in a large file size on your camera. When you want to email them, mostemail services can only allow a certain size photo to be attached to the email. Thesmaller file size, the better.

Similarly for web sites, smaller file sizes are preferred since they take less time toupload to the screen for viewing. A larger size file will cause the page to take longer toload, which can be an annoying feature to your visitors, especially if you have many

photos or graphics to display on your web page.

Many applications and web services are available to assist you to manage yourgraphics for web pages. One such service that I use for my web site is Picnik.com. Ithas a section that is available for FREE and another for Premium members. Let medescribe both.

In the edit tab, you can do a number of things including, auto-fix, rotate, crop, RESIZE, exposure colors, sharpen, and red-eye. I will talk about the resizefeature in a moment.

Under the Create tab, you can insert backgrounds, effects, text, stickers, touch-up,frames, advanced, seasonal, make a collage, slideshow, widgets, print on photo paper, mugs, calendars, cards, books, wrapping paper, and others. When you have adjustedthe photo or graphic to the extent you want then go to the Save & Share tab. e. Consider how large of a photo that you want to appear on you web page. Bigger is

not always better. Sometimes, a large photo sends just the right message. Othertimes, you want a small photo to blend into your written content.

f. Once you resize your photo, click OK and go to Save & Share tab. There you seeyour photo again with the fields and sliders available for you to readjust your photoonce again.

g. You can change the format from one type to another. The JPG format is best formost photos. Other options include PNG - best for archiving, GIF - good for smallphotos, BDP, PDF, and TIFF. Most websites prefer to use JPG.

h. Next select the slider for JPG Compression Quality. By moving the scale between 1and 10, you get a result identifying the quality of your selection. Usually, a readingbetween 6 and 9 are the best for website use.
