Personal Profile Page • Individuals • Gain Friends • Limited Number of Friends • You Can Request Friends • You are Required to Manually

Accept Friends • There is no Reporting • Very few Promotional Opportunities

Fan Page • Companies, Organizations, Brands,

Products, Artists, Bands, Public Figures, Causes, etc.

• Gain Likes • Unlimited Fans/Likes • You Can’t Request Fans • You Don’t Accept Fans • Reporting!!! • More Promotional Opportunities

such as Ads, Promoted Posts, Offers • It’s FREE!!!

What You Need to Create a Facebook Fan Page

• A Personal Facebook Profile Page.

• You will NOT have a separate login for your Fan Page – they will be the same.

• A logo or Other Photo to Use as Your Profile Picture.

• Brief Description of Your Organization.

• A Horizontal Photo that will be used as your Cover Photo.

Login to Facebook using your personal login information. Your Personal Profile Page will look similar to this after you login to Facebook.

After logging in, go to the UPSIDE DOWN TRIANGLE in the upper right-hand corner and click on “Create Page.”

You will be taken to this page. Select the middle box: “Company, Organization or Institution.”

You will be taken to this page. You will be asked to Choose a Category from the drop-down menu, select “Non-Profit Organization.”

You will be asked to fill in the name of your organization. Please use VFW Auxiliary and the number of your post. Ex: VFW Auxiliary Department of ________ (enter your state here) Ex: VFW Auxiliary 1234 Ex: VFW Auxiliary 102 Ex: VFW Auxiliary 10854

Step 1: About You will be taken to this page and asked to fill in information about your Auxiliary/Department. Brief description – Suggested: We assist veterans and their families. Website – If your Auxiliary or Department has one, fill the web address in. Otherwise, leave blank. Facebook Address – Facebook.com/vfwauxiliary12565 (i.e. vfwauxiliary and your post number) Click “Save Info”.

Step 2: Profile Picture You will want to add a photo here. Suggestions: VFW Auxiliary Emblem, American Flag, Eagle. Once the photo has been added, click “Save Photo.” The VFW Auxiliary Emblem is available in the Branding Center behind Member Login.

Step 3: Add to Favorites Click “Add to Favorites.”

Step 4: Preferred Page Audience Locations: There are several options here. I would suggest typing in your city or zip code. Age: 16 – 65+ Gender: Leave at all Interests: - Type in the following: • Veterans of Foreign Wars • United States Department of

Veterans Affairs • Veterans • Vietnam Veterans of America • Iraqi and Afghanistan Veterans of

American • Etc.

Click “Save.”

You will be taken to this page. Click “Next.”

Your Auxiliary or Department Page is now LIVE! It will ask you to “Like” the page. Go ahead and “Like” your Auxiliary or Department’s Page!

You will be asked to invite your email contacts. You may choose to do this now or at a later time. For this presentation, we will skip this step and click “Next.”

You will be taken to this page. Click “Next.”

Your Auxiliary or Department Page will display. The photo you selected on Slide 11 is shown as your profile picture.

You will now add a Cover Photo. A Cover Photo is a large, horizontal photo that graphically represents your Auxiliary or Department. Click “Add a Cover” to add your Cover Photo. Suggestions – Flags, Eagles, Photos of your Auxiliary in Action! There are cover photos available via the VFW Auxiliary Emblem Branding Center behind Member Login

You don’t have any photos yet, so you will need to “Upload Photo.”

The photo you selected is displayed here. Click “Save Changes.”

Your Auxiliary or Department Page will look similar to this once you’ve added your Profile Picture and Cover Photo.

Next, click the “Settings” tab.

You will be taken to this screen. Click the “General” tab on the left side of the page. There are numerous settings you can change in this section, but likely only two that you will WANT to change: • Posting Ability • Profanity Filter

Click “Edit” on the Posting Ability line and - Allow other people to post to

my Page timeline - Review posts by other people

before they are shown on my Page.

Select “Save Changes.”

Click “Edit” on the Profanity Filter line and select MEDIUM from the drop-down menu. Select “Save Changes”. Click on “Page” to go back to your Auxiliary or Department Page.

You will be taken back to your Auxiliary or Department Page. Next, select the “About” tab.

The “Page Info” will display. The following have already been created, but your may choose to Edit them if you need to correct something: • Category • Name • Facebook Web Address • Short Description

Simply click on the link of what you’d like to “Edit,” make your changes and “Save Changes.”

This screen will come up. You will need to “Edit” the following. Simply click on the link of what you’d like to “Edit,” make your changes and “Save Changes.” • Start Info – Select “Founded” and select the

year your Auxiliary or Department began operations.

• Address – List your Auxiliary (Post) or Department address, NOT your personal address.

• Impressum – leave as-is.

• Company Overview – Established in 1914, the Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars serves the veterans of this country and our communities in honor of the sacrifices and commitment of every man and woman who has served in uniform. We have nearly 465,000 members nationwide who volunteer millions of hours and fundraise millions of dollars for charitable projects that benefit veterans, military service personnel, and their families. Through our National Programs, we assist the VFW pass or block legislation that impacts veterans and their families, provide nearly a million volunteer hours in the VA medical system, conduct patriotic programs with thousands of students and offer hundreds of thousands of dollars in scholarships for our nation’s youth. • Founded – Type in the year your Auxiliary or Department was founded.

• Awards – Leave as-is.

• Products – Leave as-is.

• Phone – Type in your Auxiliary, Post or Department phone number.

• Email – Type in Auxiliary, Post or Department website (if you have one – if not, leave as-is).

• Website – Type in Auxiliary, Post or Department website (if you have one – if not, leave as-is).

• Official Page – Type in VFW Auxiliary – National Organization.

• Facebook Page ID – This can’t be changed.

Once all changes have been made, click the “Timeline” tab.

Now you will create a “Call-to-Action” button. Click “Call to Action.”

You will be asked to “Choose a Button” from the drop-down list. Select “Sign Up.”

If your Auxiliary or Department has a website, enter it in the “Website” field. If not, enter the National Organization’s website: www.vfwauxiliary.org Click “Next.”
