XStream X5 Controller Streamer

Getting started with SpotifyRussound’s streaming media products now include Spotify Connect. In order to access Spotify on your Russound system, the following steps are required:

Step 1 – Update to the latest system firmwareIn order to get Spotify on your Russound system, you need to have your products updated to the latest firmware versions. For firmware versions or procedures, please refer to the Russound Support Center on our website.Russound firmware version requirements for Spotify:

MCA-C5 7.01.00 or higher

TS-3 keypad 6.00.01 or higher

SLK-1 1.01.01 or higher

Step 2 – Install the Spotify App onto your phone or tabletThe Spotify App must be installed on the phone or tablet that is connected to the same network as your Russound system. The Spotify App is available for download from the App Store for iOS devices and from the Google® Play Store for Android® devices. However, in order to use Spotify on your Russound system, a Spotify Premium Account is required. New users to Spotify can receive a 30-day free trial from Spotify by going to www.spotify.com/freetrial.

Note: Spotify can be accessed quickly and easily from the MyRussound App. Just select “Spotify” from the list of streaming media sources on your X5 or DMS-3.1.

Step 3 - Select your music in the Spotify AppSpotify Connect works somewhat like Apple Airplay. In order to start playing music, you must first select the music you’d like to play on your phone or tablet using the Spotify App. Once the music is playing, you select your Russound device by tapping on the “Spotify Connect” icon (Figure 1) and choosing it from the list of available devices that appear (Figure 2).

Once you have selected your Russound device, your Spotify music will play on your Russound device. Your music is now being streamed from the Spotify server and can be controlled from your MyRussound™ App or keypad, or you can continue controlling your music from the Spotify App.

Since the Spotify App streams from the Spotify server rather than music from the phone/tablet, the phone/tablet is no longer required in order to continue playing your Spotify music. Unlike Airplay, the music will continue playing if your phone/tablet gets disconnected from the Wi-Fi network or if you get a phone call.

MyRussound App User Experience

Cover art and metadata are displayed on both the Spotify App and MyRussound App. The MyRussound App and keypads may be used to send basic transport control back to the Spotify server (volume, previous track, next track, shuffle, repeat, play, and pause). Note: The Spotify Menu selection can be disabled in the MyRussound App options menu.

1. Cover art area: Populated with current cover art or Spotify logo if the cover art is not available.

2. Metadata area: Includes “Spotify” service label, artist, album and song title.

3. Repeat button/indicator: Button will toggle between repeat all and repeat off.

4. Mute Indicator.

5. Menu button: To access the source menu.

6. Transport Controls: Prev track, Next Track, Play/Pause (icon changes based on playback state).

7. Shuffle button/indicator: Will toggle between shuffle on/off.

8. Volume control/Indicator.

• On the X5, when Spotify music is playing, the volume control on the MyRussound App and Spotify App are linked, which means a change in volume in one service will also affect the other.

• On the DMS-3.1, adjusting the Spotify App volume will raise or lower the source volume but will not adjust the zone volume level of your Russound system. The MyRussound App or a Russound keypad should be used to change zone volumes.

Note: when mute is selected on the MyRussound App, the Spotify App will indicate minimum volume.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What is the benefit of using Spotify Connect over using Airplay?

A: Airplay streams music from the user’s phone/tablet to the Russound system. If the user removes the phone/tablet, the music will stop playing. The Spotify App, however, streams from the Spotify server rather than mu-sic from the phone/tablet. As a result, by using Spotify, the user can continue playing music even if the user’s phone/tablet is no longer connected to the Russound system.

Q: Can you save favorites on Spotify?

A: Spotify requires that all music start from the Spotify App. As a result, it is not possible to save favorites in the Russound system for Spotify. An alternative option would be to use the Spotify App for storing your favorite Spotify music selections.

Q: Can I use Spotify on my Russound system if I don’t have a Spotify Premium Account?

A: In order to use Spotify on your Russound system, a Spotify Premium Account is required. New users to Spotify can receive a 30-day free trial from Spotify by going to www.spotify.com/freetrial.
