Refurbishment Details•26th September•Term 4 Week 2 Saturday•8.30am to 5pm [or earlier]▫Depending on unit▫Do not leave until permission is given

Refurbishment Details•Venue: Blk 61 and 62 Geylang Bahru▫Meet at the block you’re assigned to

•Attire: Raffles PE attire•Stuff to bring: water bottle, newspapers, spare set of

clothes, a caring heart (:

Roles during Refurb• Admin Points

▫ Staffed by IC and AIC of Refurbishment and some committee members▫ Located at void deck of each block (Blk 61 and 62)▫ In charge of coordination and allocation▫ Baggage storage

• Logistics▫ Stationed at Blk 61▫ Distribution of materials and resources (e.g. paint) to units

• Movers Team▫ Furniture collection and distribution▫ Transport larger logistics from Viriya centre to blocks

Roles during Refurb• Unit I/Cs▫ In charge of refurbishment for his individual unit▫ Coordinate movement with Admin Point▫ Assist volunteers in intervention

• Volunteers▫ Carry out intervention required (painting, cleaning etc)▫ Interact with residents

• Media Team▫ To be stationed at Blk 61

Notes for Refurbishment• Painting Jobs▫ Do not paint the doors, gates or window grilles▫ Move furniture out before painting▫ Bring your own newspapers

• Language Capability▫ Ensure that at least 1 of you can speak the same language as the resident▫ A few of the residents can only speak dialects

• Mattress Exchange▫ On a 1-to-1 basis only:▫ Bring the old one to get the new one

Notes for Refurbishment•We are only required to handle cleaning / painting jobs only•Other specialised help will be provided by contractors from

CDL• Inform the residents on items that we were unable to get

(they will be crossed out)

Dealing With The Residents• Main problems encountered▫ Hoarding▫ Mild psychological disorders

• How to deal with it▫ Consult the resident on all actions to be taken on the flat

• If the resident gets agitated▫ Remain calm and talk to the resident normally▫ Try to reason with the residents▫ If all else fails, contact the Admin points

Post-Refurbishment• After finishing a unit, report back to the Admin Point• Media team will take an ‘after-intervention’ photo• Invite residents down to block party [5pm at Kolam Ayer CC]▫ Residents should already have ‘tickets’ if they are going

• Refurb volunteers may then leave▫ Optional to stay for block party
