37th annual lionS club auction:Bidding will get underway at 3 p.m. Saturday as local auctioneers sell off new and good used merchandise, gift baskets and certificates. Proceeds will benefit sight conservation efforts in Defiance County. Numerous items will also be raffled off, with tickets at $1 each or six for $5.

Dozens of area vendors will be on hand at the spacious George M. Smart Athletic Center at Defiance College. Spokesman Rick Small relayed that 160 vendors are scheduled this year, with more gardening businesses featured.

This year, all of the vendor spaces have been sold out. Featured businesses include everything from lumber and concrete companies to floral, furniture, siding and window businesses from throughout the region, as well as service agencies and health care facilities.
