New Memorial of the Blessed Virgin MaryMother of the Church

In March 2018 Pope Francis decreed that the Monday after Pentecost would annually be the Memorial of the Blessed Virgin Mary in her role as “Mother of the Church” to encourage growth of the maternal sense of the Church in the pastors, religious and faithful, as well as a growth of genuine Marian piety.

Holy Rosary Tuition Assistance2018-2019 School Year

The Diocese of Cleveland encourages parishes who do not operate a Catholic School to provide assistance for children whose families are registered at that parish to attend a Catholic elementary school. This program subsidizes an amount sufficient to cover the difference between parishioner and non-parishioner tuition rates at area Catholic grade schools and allows families to remain active parishioners of their home parish. Any parish family with children enrolled in Kindergarten through 8th grade at a Catholic elementary school and who is not currently participating in the parish tuition assistance program is invited to contact Father Joe Previte at (216) 421-2995 regarding specific details.

PENTECOST SUNDAY MAY 20, 2018

My Dear Parish Family:

“Do not depart from Jerusalem but wait until you receive ‘the promise of the Father.’” These were the instructions the apostles received on the day of the Lord’s ascension into heaven. Today we celebrate the arrival of “the promise of the Father,” that is the coming of the Holy Spirit upon those first followers of Jesus. It is impossible to overstate how important, how necessary is the coming of the Holy Spirit upon us. Without the coming of The Advocate, the Spirit of Truth, the third person of the Blessed Trinity, life here on earth would be entirely different.

Consider that without the Pentecost the apostles would still be locked up in the room praying for deliverance, fearful and with faith waning. There would be no more followers of Jesus, the Christ, than there were on the day of His ascension.Without the Holy Spirit to ignite the Church she would not really be the Body of Christ on earth but just another human institution even more susceptible to the weaknesses of human nature. Had the Holy Spirit not come there would have been no inspiration for the writing of the gospels to tell the story of our salvation. There would be no Acts of the Apostles because the apostles would not have acted!! Without the descent of the Divine Advocate the letters of St. Paul and others would not have expounded on the meaning of salvation.

On the day of the ascension of our Lord, the apostles were concerned about the removal of Christ’s presence for them. As Pope St. Leo reminds us Christ’s presence passed into the sacraments on that Ascension Day. Had the Holy Spirit not been given to us, there would be no sacraments by which Christ remains present to us! Without the Holy Spirit having been breathed upon the apostles on that Easter evening, there would be not forgiveness of sins. Absent the Holy Spirit the prayer over the bread and wine would be empty. They would not become the Body and Blood of Christ but would remain only bread and wine. Our baptism would be no different than that of John the Baptist in that it would have no power to make us children of God. Without the Holy Spirit what we know as the sacraments would be simply empty rituals.

Clearly, the coming of the Holy Spirit was necessary for the completion of our salvation. So let us pray,Come Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful and kindle in them the fire of your love. Send forth your Spirit and they shall be created. And You shall renew the face of the earth.O, God, who by the light of the Holy Spirit, did instruct the hearts of the faithful, grant that by the same Holy Spirit we may be truly wise and ever enjoy His consolations, Through Christ Our Lord, Amen.

Peace of Christ,Deacon Bruce
