The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ – June 7, 2015 – Lord, I believe!

Parish Mass Intentions

Sunday 6/7 People of the Parishes Wednesday 6/10 Celebrant’s Intention Sunday 6/14 People of the Parishes Our Prayers Go Out

For a safe and productive summer vacation for all of our area students, teachers, and families.

For Fr. Jacques Mourad & Dcn. Boutros Hanna, who were reportedly kidnapped at gunpoint from the Monastery of Mar Elian just outside of Homs, Syria. The Homs archdiocese asks “all the faithful to invoke the Lord in prayer so that Fr. Jacques is released and can return to his life of prayer, to serve his brothers and all Syrians”.

For those who are having or just had surgery: especially, Betty Geerts and Paula Phillips.

For the sick, especially Richard E. McLane, who is now mending a broken hip in addition to all else; for those with cancers, like Gabrielle, Michael Gregory, and John and Jeanne Wright; also for Eleanor Stisher, Sally, Mary-Alice, Deb, Mildred, and Mary (Fr. Tony’s sister).

For a special intention for Romel.

For the repose of the soul of John Wright, whose funeral was celebrated this Saturday.

For Mike and Suzie as they celebrate another year of wedded bliss.

For an increase in devotion to the Most Holy Eucharist and the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus, as we begin our June devotions.

For all of our parishioners, volunteers, and other benefactors, who help to keep the parish and its apostolates running smoothly.

For our summer seminarian, Josh Altonji: that he may gain good experiences and new friendships during his summer with us.

Bulletin Notices

Contact Mike Geerts at [email protected] or 205-266-3065 if you have a bulletin notice (including birthdays, anniversaries, or other news of interest to parishioners).

NEW! Welcome, Josh!

We welcome seminarian Josh Altonji to the parish this weekend. Josh attends the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio and has just completed his second year of theology studies (so, God-willing, he has two years to go). He will be with us until the end of July to serve the parish communities of St. Barnabas and Holy Rosary, as well as the Hispanic community at Our Lady of Lourdes. Please give him a warm welcome and let him know of your support for his vocational discernment. Scripture Readings for Next Sunday – 6/14

1st Reading: Ezekial 17:22-24 Responsorial: Psalm 92:2-3, 13-14, 15-16 2nd Reading: 2 Corinthians 5:6-10 Gospel: Mark 4:26-34

UPDATE! Work on the Reading Room

The renovation works in the rectory to adapt a space for our new Reading Room are well under way and should be finished soon. Then our volunteer team will start decorating with the “outer space theme” that they are planning. In the meantime, we have continued to receive donations from local individuals and groups for the many needed items. The community support for this important project has been impressive. We will have an open house when all is complete!

Annual Summer Youth Camp

Coach Murphy has been planning a summer experience for our area youth starting in late June, and has arranged for four program “graduates” to come back and help him. Would you be able to help also? If so, please contact Coach at (205) 835-7769.

NEW! Barons Baseball

David Renda at St. Barnabas is planning a youth outing to Regions Field to see the Birmingham Barons vs. the Chattanooga Lookouts on Saturday, June 13. Everyone is invited! (Even those who technically are no longer “youth”!) In order to receive a group rate we need to reserve our tickets as soon as possible. Please call David at 205-585-2940 by Monday, June 8 if you would like to join us! Tell him you’re from Holy Rosary and that Father Jerabek sent you!

NEW! Mass in Honor of St. Josemaria Escrivá

All are invited to a Mass in honor of St. Josemaria Escrivá, the Founder of Opus Dei at the Cathedral of St. Paul on Saturday, June 27 at 11:00am, followed by a reception in the Cathedral Life Center. Learn more about this “Saint of Ordinary Life”, canonized by Pope St. John Paul II, at http://josemariaescriva.info.

Our Wonderful Catholic Faith

The Private Prayers of the Priest

SERIES RESUMES NEXT WEEK!

THE BREAD OF ANGELS

Very bread, Good Shepherd, tend us, Jesu, of your love befriend us, You refresh us, you defend us, Your eternal goodness send us In the land of life to see.

– Excerpt from the Sequence for Corpus Christi

AN ACT OF FAITH IN THE REAL PRESENCE

OF JESUS CHRIST IN THE MOST HOLY EUCHARIST

BELIEVE in my heart and profess with my lips that the bread and wine, which are

placed upon the altar, are really and substantially changed by the mystery of the sacred prayer and by the words of our Savior, spoken by the priest, into the true and life-giving Flesh and Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ.

After the Consecration there is present the true Body of Christ, which was born of the Virgin Mary and offered up for the salvation of the world: which hung upon the Cross for us, and now sits at the right hand of the Father in glory; and there is present the true Blood of Christ which flowed from his side.

I believe that his Precious Body and Blood are really and truly present, even though the appearances of bread and wine remain.

I reaffirm this faith every time I say “Amen” before receiving Holy Communion, and every time I genuflect towards the tabernacle.

And before this great Sacrament I bow down in worship as before God himself, for I know by my Catholic faith that it truly is God himself, the second Person of the Holy Trinity, who for our sake became man, taking to himself a human body and soul, and now continues his Presence among us as he promised, hidden under these humble appearances.

I pray that our loving Savior, before whom I now kneel, will until the day I die preserve and deepen my faith in his Real Presence in the Most Blessed Sacrament of the Altar, and that after I die, the veil that now hides his glorious Presence from me may be lifted, and I may rejoice to see him face to face for ever, together with all the saints in heaven. Amen.

I
