Who is Mrs. Chapman? • 18th year in the teaching

profession- 3 years (1st grade), 4 years (2nd grade), and 11 years (3rd grade).

• Bachelor’s degree from Kennesaw State University

• Masters and Specialist degree from Piedmont College

• Gifted Endorsement• I am married and have one son,

Noah.

Parent Connect-AspenCherokee County provides a program that allows you to

access your child’s grades online. See Cathy Townsend in the office me for a registration form and I will forward it to the office to set

up your login information.

Absences &Tardiness•Send in an excuse letter. I will

forward this to the office where they will mark absence excused.

•Make-up work will be sent home when the student returns to school.

•Remember, excessive tardies have a negative impact on student achievement. Our school has implemented a truancy committee.

Readingo Fountas and Pinnell–

• Initial placement assessment• Helps determine individual reading

level• Benchmark Assessments given 2

times a year• In-depth to identify accuracy and

comprehension • Approximately 30 min. per student to

administer• The next assessment will be given by

the end of the first semester.

Reading Instruction• Comprehension skills will be

taught whole group.• Novel studies-Whole group • Literature circles, independent

reading, research, and special projects will be assigned independently or in small groups.

Reading Centerso Guided Reading

• Literacy Center Rotationso Meet with the Teachero Work on Writingo Read to Self/Partnero Word Worko Technology

Storiao Storia will be used for reading

instruction both at school and at home. (if available)

o Access to e-books (assigned based on reading level)

o Grades will be based on scores from the “Reading Challenge” (quiz) at the end of the book.

o Counts as 25% of the grade.

Reading Grading Scale

• Reading Grades are weighted: – 25% Fountas and Pinnell – 25% Comprehension &

Vocabulary– 25% STORIA– 25% Classwork

Written Expressiono Write paragraphs using complete sentences and have correct capitalization and punctuation.

o WRITING PROCESS- Rough draft, Editing, and

Publishingo Use details that “paint a picture” with

their writing. Interactive Student Notebooks

Spelling• Tests will be given every 2 weeks• Pretests will be given on the first

day words are introduced (Typically Mondays)

• Pretest score will count unless posttest score is higher. **Challenge list only**
