It was wonderful to see so many children dressed as their favourite characters. If you looked carefully you could see Harry Potter and Hermione, Hedge Wig and Bell, Angelina Ballerina and a Wild Thing, Thing1 and Thing2 to name just a few. Having a week dedicated to books and reading is such a positive way to highlight the importance of imagination and creativity. Books are able to transport us to other worlds, to bring mystery, adventure and fantasy alive which encourages children to dive into reading and continue to read as they move through life. I would encourage you to share a book with a child this week, to discuss the characters and themes and show the importance of books in our lives. Read on! Many Thanks Mark Lewington PRINCIPAL

ORIENTEERING

On Tuesday 23rd May 33 children

represented Hillsborough Primary School at the Roskill Zone

Orienteering Day. The course was tricky and required a lot of

stamina. Our students were outstanding and showed perseverance

and great sportsmanship. One of our year 6 girls teams placed 2nd

overall and our two year 6 boys teams placed 2nd and 3rd overall.

We had heaps of fun and look forward to term four when we get to

learn more about orienteering as our kiwisport topic.

Thank you to all of our parent helpers and supporters on the

day.

BOOKWEEK Bookweek is now underway this week held in Room 13. This is a great opportunity to purchase books at

reasonable prices for your family. Our school receives a percentage of the books sold during the week, which we use to buy books for the library and classrooms, to benefit all children. Donations of books (of your choosing) to our school library are also very greatefully apreciated and we acknowledge this, inside the book, and also at school assembly. On Monday students and teachers dressed up in their favourite book character. The students enjoyed having Clifford the Big Red Dog come to visit to share in the excitement.

Congratulations to the following students who received certificates on 26th May 2017 at the School Assembly.
