Hillsboro Aviation helicopter training brochure
Citation preview
“Some days I can’tbelieve I’m me.”Former student Rob
Mount was hungry
for adventure. Today
he is an EMS
helicopter pilot.
Ten minutes into his first helicopter
flight and Rob Mount was hooked.
Today he pilots life-flight rescue,
helping save lives as he pursues his
passion for flying. “In my old job,
I was needing more challenge and
excitement. Well I got it.”
“After deciding to pursue a
dream as a helicopter pilot,
I investigated a number of flight
schools. Hillsboro offered the best
flying environment — varied
terrain and weather conditions —
and folks who really take a
personal interest in you.”
Rob says there has never been a
better time to learn to fly helicopters.
“Many helicopter pilots are retiring
and that’s creating a shortage,
so now is a great time to begin a
career as a helicopter pilot. If they
are anything like me, they’ll feel so
lucky — it’s almost like being drafted
into the NFL.”

A career awaits you.The growing demand for helicopter
pilots continues to be unaffected by
economic or political events. This
growth curve continues to expand
as many Vietnam-era pilots retire.
Moreover, businesses recognize the
unique advantages of using helicopter
services for various tasks and the need
for highly skilled helicopter pilots to
do the job.
This demand creates outstanding
job opportunities in many services and
industries, including:
• Aero-medical
• Heavy lifting
• Law enforcement
• Traffic reporting
• Aerial photography
• Scenic tours
• Pipeline patrol
• Corporate transportation
• Flight instruction
• Firefighting
• Homeland Security
• Movies / TV production
• Logging
• Oil and gas exploration
• TV news reporting
• Agriculture
• Offshore operations
Our large fleet of turbine helicopters is
actively engaged in firefighting, TV news
reporting, external load, sightseeing,
government contracts, oil/gas exploration
and executive charter. Many of the pilots
flying these helicopters are home-grown
graduates of our school.
Having our turbine helicopter
department operate side-by-side with
our flight school provides our students
with a unique opportunity not available at
most schools. Our students see firsthand
the real-world environment of commercial
helicopter operations. It’s the type of
exposure you can’t get in a classroom.
Hillsboro Aviation is also recognized
as a leader in helicopter sales. We have
the proud distinction of being the only
authorized Bell Helicopter dealer in the
United States. We are also a dealer for
the Robinson Helicopter Company.
More than a flight school.
“I built a career aroundone of the things Iloved the most.”After flying helicopters
as a hobby, Morgan
Kozloski decided to
step it up a bit.
And that was quite a step. Today
you’ll find Morgan on the front lines
fighting fires from his helicopter
in the western United States.
“I love a challenge, so when
I decided to go pro, I took my time
doing research to find the right
school. I kept thinking I would
end up in California but I kept
hearing Hillsboro, Oregon.”
Morgan was able to build on
his helicopter hobby and make it a
career in Hillsboro and loved the
fact that the school is a diverse
operation offering many avenues
to explore as an aviator.
“I got my first job as a helicopter
pilot with Hillsboro Aviation. I flew
part time and worked part time.
I built up lots of hours and gained
valuable experience. Looking back
over my life as a helicopter
pilot, I can’t remember a day when
I didn’t want to go to work.”

“I have a great job.”Hillsboro graduate

Today, he does
just that.
Joe Macci knew he wanted to
become a pilot. It wasn’t until
he saw big heavy-lift helicopters

California, that he knew he wanted
to fly helicopters. When you
ask Joe why he chose to go to

“their great reputation with heli-

out “I did my homework before I

when I spoke with pilots in the
helicopter industry.”
Now living his dream flying
big helicopters for a major
helicopter company, Joe sees
Hillsboro graduates coming to
work at his company all the time.
“The name carries a lot of weight
around here. The senior pilots are
always happy when they find
out their new copilot is coming
out of Hillsboro.”

Location, location, location.
Our location in the Pacific
Northwest provides nearly every
kind of climate, terrain and flying
condition that a pilot is likely to
encounter. In Hillsboro, our pilots
learn to fly over the high central
desert, the Pacific coastline and
one of America’s richest
recreational playgrounds. Nearby
is the scenic Columbia Gorge.
To the east and west are the
towering Cascade and Coast
mountain ranges. To the south
stretches a wealth of rich farmland,
ranches and wineries. No matter
the direction you go, you’ll find
exciting and dramatic places to
challenge you.
Outside of the classroom and
the cockpit you will also be able
to enjoy the best of what living
in the Pacific Northwest has to
offer. From Portland’s culture and
entertainment to the skiing and
windsurfing nearby, you’ll be in the
middle of it all.
