Highly Recommended Things to Do in Sedona AZ
Sedona AZ is all sunny-sunny. If you are visiting Sedona, don’t forget to pack sunscreen and comfy
shoes. Most of the things to do in Sedona AZ are outdoor activities. You’d love spending time under
the azure sky. It is quite tough task to list down the best things to do in Sedona AZ, but here I have
made some effort and listed down a few places and activities you will enjoy doing.
Chapel of the Holy Cross
Looking for the most wonderful artwork in Sedona AZ. Don’t roam finding it in art galleries, visit
Chapel of the Holy Cross. It stands tall rising from the ground and merges with the stone towers
surrounding it elegantly. The well-known sculptor named Marguerite Brunswig Staude designed it.
The chapel sits 200 feet above the valley floor propelling upward between two robust pillars of rock.
The backdrop is made of the high cliffs of salmon hues. The interior of the chapel is simple and
classy.
Vortex Sites
If you are quite old-school and not so in love with the modern age developments and structures plan
on visiting a few vortex sites in Sedona AZ. The wonderful thing about the locations of vortexes is
that they are located at the most breath-taking scenic spots midst of the red rock formations. You
can find vortexes at Boynton Canyon, Bell Rock, Cathedral Rock and Airport Mesa.
Sedona Heritage Museum
As commonly seen small town museums always are old-fashioned having that laidback charm, it is
the same case with this Sedona Heritage Museum. The Museum displays the history of the life
among these wonderful red rock formations from the time of early pioneer days until the present.
The focus is split between the exhibits of the times of apple-growing, cowboys and the movies. This
kind of things are rarely seen in museums but overall it covers the much of Sedona’s history. Sedona
was a cowboy country but the early settlers prospered along the Oak Creek by growing fruits like
apples and peaches. Round about 100 feature films were shot in Sedona AZ. The movie room of the
museum is chocked fully with the photo stills, posters, storyboards, a diorama of the old western
movie set, and a loop of Sedona-based flicks.
Palatki and Honanki Heritage Sites
Just located outside the town of Sedona AZ there are ancient ruins of the early inhabitants of Sedona
nestled against high magenta cliffs. Both are the cliff dwellings of the ancestors of the Hopi the
Sinagua who used to exist in the region from 1100 AD to 1350 AD. A trail at Palatki also leads back to
the to alcoves sheltering pictographs, or painted symbols, adorning the rocks. Some of the drawings
are dating back to the Clovis Culture around 10,000 BC. Palatki and Honanki are just a few miles
away from each other. A dirt road is connecting both.
