High suction pump forpollution duties Darcy Products’ high suctionperistaltic pump is designed forsmall-scale spillages and otheremergency clean-up duties. Itcan achieve a maximum flowrate of 20 m3/h with suctionlifts of up to 9 m available.

The mobile pump can be drivenby a selection of petrol, diesel,or electric motors or, fordemanding environmentswhere safety is a priority, thereis a water-driven modelavailable, which can be utilisedby the fire service, for example, with oil or chemical spills.

The pump can run dry and has alow-shear pumping action thatallows oil and water mixtures tobe pumped without emulsific-ation occurring.

The tubing element and‘straight through’ flow pathinherent in the peristalticconcept should minimize mostproblems with pump blockagesand allow end users to handlefibrous solids-laden materials. The glandless valvelessconstruction design will alsoreduce the risk of damagingleakages into the environment.

New liquid ring pumpselection tool

A new software tool has beenlaunched by BOC Edwards toassist end-users looking topurchase liquid ring vacuumpumps from its product range. The computer programme, calledSystemised Liquid Ring Pump(SLRP) provides users with aninstant 3D visual image and apump blueprint fitting theirbespoke specifications. Thecompany claims that using thetool could cut lead-times forspecifiers by half.

The SLRP programme utilises 3DAutoCad design software toproduce a bespoke systemdrawing, based upon the criteriaselected by the end-user in theSLRP configurator page. Morethan 1,000 variations can beaccessed based upon six differentoptions, including the pump;construction materials; flangeconnection; area classification;motor; and type of package.

The selected data is input into amenu on the computer screen atthe start of the SLRP programmeand within minutes the user canexpect to see an exactrepresentation of the completedpump, with all the relevantdrawings.

Liquid ring is a proven pumptechnology, for continuousoperation from atmospheredown to 33 mbar absolute.

New sealcompounds forhealthcare sector

Parker Hannifin is providing o-ring seals in 24 speciallyformulated elastomer materials, with non-toxic and non-carcinogenic ingredients, tocomply with FDA standards forrubber compounding inhealthcare and pharmaceuticalapplications.

Compound choices includeEPDMs, silicones, fluorocarbons, fluoroelastomers, and perfluoro-elastomers. Each material optionis suitable for a range sealingsolutions on medical devicepumping systems. Thecompounds can operate in hightemperature environments inexcess of 600°F, can handle highpurity/low extractable duties andare compatible with chemical, steam and gamma sterilizationprocesses, as well as with a widerange of drugs.

The seals meet FDArequirements as codified in the21 CFR 177.2600 standard.Five of the specially formulatedseals are also compliant to USPharmacopoeia (USP) Class VIstandards for system toxicityand intracutaneous toxicity.USP Class VI compounds mustbe made from ingredients withclear histories of bio-compatibility that meetstringent requirements for lowextractables.
