HIGH PURITY ALUMINA (HPA) Meeting a sapphire future

Aiming to become a world-leading HPA producer

Altech is aiming to become one of the world’s leading suppliers of high purity alumina (HPA), which is aluminium oxide (Al2O3) of

99.99% (4N) purity or greater.

Deposit in Western Australia and plant in Malaysia

The Company’s 100%-owned Meckering kaolin deposit is located ~130kms from Perth, Western Australia. The proposed location for the 4,000tpa HPA processing facility is in the Tanjung Langsat

Industrial Complex, Johor, Malaysia.

Current HPA producers use expensive feedstock to produce HPA

Current HPA producers use highly-processed and expensive feedstock materials such as aluminum metal to produce HPA. Altech’s kaolin, which is an alumina-rich clay, is a low-cost feedstock

alternative to producing HPA.

Altech’s proposed HPA plant design (Malaysian operations)

Altech owns and uses high-quality kaolin to produce HPA

Altech produces 4N HPA directly from its low-impurity, alumina-rich Meckering kaolin ore. This high-quality feedstock facilities the

production of a very pure alumina product.

Proven HCl process to produce high-quality 4N HPA

Altech employs a conventional and proven HCl-based technology that is highly suited to producing high-quality HPA from a kaolin

feedstock.

HPA is the key ingredient toartificial sapphire production

The naturally-occurring gemstone sapphire is a form of HPA. Today, artificial sapphire is being manufactured from

4N HPA.

Sapphire used in LEDs, semiconductors, phosphor TVs

Artificial sapphire is used to produce a wide range of high-performance applications such as LEDs, semiconductors, consumer electronics, lithium-ion battery separators,

phosphor display screens and more.

HPA demand 20,000tpa and growing at ~25% CAGR

The global HPA market is approximately 19,040tpa (2014)and is expected to at least double over the coming decade,

with reports estimating 48,230tpa by 2018.

LEDs ‘lighting of the future’ underlying driver of HPA growth

The global adoption of LEDs as the cost-effective and energy-efficient replacement of traditional light bulbs is driving HPA demand. The LED market accounted for 55%

of global HPA demand.

Emerging uses in lithium batteries and smartphones

HPA is used in the coatings of lithium-ion battery separators found in electric vehicles and portable electronics.

The growing use of sapphire glass by smartphone manufacturers is adding to demand for HPA.
