President’s Message ...

Greetings during this beautiful fall season, as I hope you have enjoyed it as much as I have. October has been extremely busy as my first month as President has flown by. We have had several great programs throughout the month as Cody Windbigler, Resource Officer for Cape Girardeau Coun-ty Sherriff’s Office, presented on school safety and the importance of in-forming our youth on what to do if an intruder enters their school. It was also a pleasure to have Mary Boner, Dr. Dwight Johnson and Tina Weber join us to provide information on November Ballot Topics. Fellowship for this past month was wonderful as we learned more about apples and how we can all reminisce to great memories and traditions with our families.

As Thanksgiving quickly approaches, I ask that you think about your tradi-tions and customs within your family. Many fond memories of past family gatherings come to mind for me, whether it’s napping after a huge dinner, playing pickup football in the back yard, or going through all the Black Fri-day ads to set your plan of attack for the next morning. It is on these oc-casions that we should reflect back and truly understand the history and past experiences of our ancestors that risked their lives to come to the “new world” to experience a better life. In those days, the challenges were enormous and of a type we can barely imagine.

Today we face entirely different challenges. Whether they are bigger or smaller, I can't say. But I believe God’s grace is always sufficient, and for every hardship there are many more blessings. We just need to pause and recognize them.

As you enjoy Thanksgiving with your own family this year, I hope that each of you take the time to reflect and acknowledge all that we have to be thankful for during this holiday season. Personally, I continue to be most thankful for my family, friends, health and freedom. As time continues to escape us, I know we are all guilty of getting caught up in the hustle and bustle and forget to really slow down and appreciate everything we have been granted. Please remember to hug the ones you love and enjoy the time of togetherness.

May God continue to bless your family and our Optimist family.

Yours in Optimism Kristin Daniel

Ladies, I have a thankless job. It is my duty to get people to commit to helping out with Bingo monthly. We make more money doing Bingo once a month than every single other opportunity we have to raise funds put together. Back before Bingo World opened, we'd work a couple months ahead of time to have a chili supper where we earned about the same amount of money we earn in one month hosting bingo. That was a once a year project. Since we starting hosting bingo, it has enabled us to buy many more items for the children of our community. Your Help is Needed!!! Once a month for 3 hours!!!!!!!!!

Setting up for Bingo begins at 2:00 p.m. Paper Sales and Pull Tab Sales begin at 4:30 p.m. Bingo Games officially begin at 6:30 p.m. (We finish about 9 p.m.)

Please find at least 3 hours one Friday a month that you can give of your time to help your club in this fundraising endeavor. This is a club project and all members need to pitch in and do their part. In return, you get credit for $10 towards your dues EACH time you work. It's a win-win situation for both the kids and our club. The funds raised from our work at Bingo World help us to continue to fulfill our mission as we “Bring Out the Best in Kids” through sponsorship of programs such as:

The problem is, however, many of you have caller ID and when you see that I'm calling you, you say to yourselves, "AWE, I don't want to go work bingo tomorrow", so you just don't answer the phone. This isn't fair to me AT ALL! At least have the decency to tell me you're not coming. I don't need to know the reason. I just need some cooperation if we're going to be able to keep Bingo going. It seems that the same 6 or 8 people work every month. Some other clubs or organizations make working mandatory or members are fined. This is not the case with our club, please help me out. Answer the phone. Show up three hours once a month. This helps out the club and it helps the kids of our community. PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Jodi Thompson Bingo Chairperson

the district this year. The Optimist Club of Jackson will be building a club in Dexter. Work is ongoing in Herman with help from Dennis Desmond from West Missouri. St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital

1962-2012 (Celebrating 50 years)

St. Jude was founded by entertainer Danny Thomas, with help from Dr. Lemuel Diggs and close friend, Miami Florida auto magnate An-thony Abraham, on the premise that "no child should die in the dawn of life". This idea resulted from a promise that Danny Thom-as had made to a saint years before the hospital was founded.

This is just a small piece of information we (Pat Abernathy, Emily Collins, Esther Bohnert and Sandy Graham) received while visiting St. Jude Children’s Hospital Monday, October 22, 2012. We were filled with excitement and yet sadness for the sick children we observed.

This was the perfect ending to our yearlong campaign to raise money for these precious children. With all your help our club was able to raise $2,643.22. Many thanks for everyone’s hard work selling raffle tickets, eating at Gordonville Grille, working at Wal-Mart, placing cans around the area and just getting donations.

What a wonderful facility one man’s dream created.

We left at 8:15 a.m., stopped at Cracker Barrel in West Memphis to eat. On the return trip, we broke

bread (and our diets!) at Lambert’s in Sikeston, arriving home around 6:30 p.m. Regretfully two other

key members of our committee were unable to

attend, Donna Rushing and Ann Fields. We were

also sorry that Anita Branscum was not able to

accompany us on the trip as originally planned. It

was a fun trip for all of us and we hope to do

something like that again soon.
