Please note, the Professional Liability program will only be offered at the Itasca location and the Governmental program will only be offered at the Bloomington-Normal location. Our theme this year is “Lighting the Way,” and our objectives are to shed light on some of the most pernicious issues that you face on a day-to-day basis and help guide the way to effective resolutions. CASUALTY & PROPERTY SESSION In this session, our presenters shine a bright light on pre-suit investigations, evidence preservation and admissibility, extra-contractual liability, e-discovery (including social media), and provide updates from recent property and casualty cases. You will also learn how to counter “reptile tactics” and get tips on working with Illinois verdict forms. WORKERS’ COMPENSATION SESSION Our statewide Workers’ Compensation group will enlighten you with a panel discussion about accidents and “arising out of” claims. Our presenters will discuss hot topics such as new sexual harassment laws and proposed legislation relating to the opioid crisis. You will also get updates on recent, relevant case law, and hear presentations on cyber security, HIPAA, e-filing, and utilization reviews. GOVERNMENTAL SESSION This session will illuminate hot topics in areas such as sexual harassment claims and policies, preserving evidence, how to guard against a data breach, OMA/FOIA, and tips on how to prepare for litigation. In addition, the team will highlight legal updates in tort immunity and civil rights. PROFESSIONAL LIABILITY SESSION In this session, our experienced med-mal attorneys will dispel any shadowy areas in topics including the Medical Studies Act as it relates to patient studies, jury selection in the age of millennials, electronic medical records, how to counter “reptile tactics,” reasonable case value and future medical damages, as well as effective settlement strategies, high/low agreements, and standstill agreements.
