Listening Listening for meaning

We can listen at 500 wpm, people can speak at 200 wpm.

Powerful Questions (open ended)

….A sample: What do you want ? What do you propose to do ?   How will this be a benefit to the

project ? Think about somebody you know who

has..? Has there ever been a time when…?

Opened Ended vs Closed Questions…

Open Ended typically begin with:What, When, Where, How… etc.

Closed Questions typically begin with:

Do, Can, Will…etc.

Telling or asking closed ended questions saves people from having to think. Asking open ended questions causes them to think for themselves.

Coaching questions compel attention for an answer, focuses attention for precision and creates a feedback loop. Instructing does none of these.
