S A N A M A H M O O D Sana Mahmood’s miniatures rely mostly on linear structures placed in various configurations as well as small pristinely rendered floral motifs on dark or chequered backgrounds, reminiscent of those found in Mughal miniatures but used in a different context. Her finely painted symbols invoke ideas pertaining to the ‘unpredictability of life’, as well as the concept of the fragility of a life that does not have a strong foundation. He portrays this deep sense of injustice at the sectarian discrimination within his community through different techniques on his canvas.
