Outstanding job to Mary Kokoszka and her Committee. An

Keep in mind Helping Hands' Annual Auction Monday October 23rd! Not too

soon to be saving gently used items or "why did I ever buy that" items.

Think theme baskets, or grouping of fat quarters. Get creative and let's see

some new and creative ideas. Doesn't necessarily have to be quilting

related...kitchen, bath, greeting card theme baskets.

Come, join our guild member, Shirley Smith,

who will lead us in this pumpkin block

project. You can make one block, or

multiple blocks for a table runner or

door banner. We can trade 2 ½ inch

squares to get a variety of fabrics.

We also encourage our members, both new and seasoned, to

attend this relaxed day of sewing and sharing. You may also

bring a project you struggle with for some advice/ help from

fellow guild members.

[email protected]

FYI: Helping Hands wants to be a FRIENDLY, WELCOMING guild.

We are so happy to encourage visitors, new members, and those

who want to try us out.

In an effort to be “fair” to our dues-paying members, the

board has set the following fees:

• $5 visitor fee for meetings with speakers. Dues will become

$20 (instead of $25) if visitors join at the next meeting.

• $10 extra VISITOR charge for workshops (Normally $40

workshops become $50 to non-dues paying attendees.)

Raffle Quilt 2018 Lucinda Mercier

A committee has been formed to start planning and

assembling our next raffle quilt. Mary Kokoszka, Sue

Hoecker, ML Kaczka, Mary Dawn Ditty, and Lucinda

Mercier have begun plans for a quilt with lighthouse

blocks. It is believed that the public in this area of DE will

relate to this design. ML is using EQ7 to design it and

Lucinda is going to lead the sewing.

We would love you to help by donating fabric pieces

and /or fat quarters in these colors:

PLEASE, BRING TO THE JUNE MEETING (OR JULY).

• Tans (both tone on tone, sand, seashells, etc.)

• Blue (water and sky colors)

• Rust and reds

• Greens (medium to light)

• Lavender/ purple (medium, to light)

• Gold

Some tone on tone or textured fabrics are needed.

Any questions: Please, call or email Lucinda

at 302-525-5614 or [email protected]

Block of the Month: Block 11 is due at the meeting! We encourage you to finish

this fun project so we can show our completed projects in

September when the designer, Sandi Blackwell, visits us. It

will be exciting to see how different they look due to our

varying placement and fabrics!

Workshop Fees: Fees for all-day workshops are $40 payable to the guild when

you sign up. Half day is $25. Member led workshops are $15 to

cover guild costs.

If you have any blocks (either 4-Patch or stripped) for QOV, please bring them to the June meeting. We are only 10 blocks short of completing our goal of 4 quilts to present at the August meeting.

We seem to acquire more fabric just when we begin to wonder

what is next for us, and the work goes on and on. It's amazing

the variety of fabrics we receive for all ages, and it is all so

much fun to work on.

Kits for top making are available at the guild meeting, or

don't hesitate to contact me between meetings if the QFO

bug strikes you! Machine quilting and binding is an ongoing

project as well.

Quilting for Others will meet on Tuesday, July 11 at 6PM at

the Simpson Center on Main St. in Camden. Please remember to

park behind the Whatcoat Church off Center Street and come

into the building through the back. Just follow the crowd and

the well-lit sidewalk! We are on a patriotic wave, and we will

have a number of these and other quilts to be pinned that night.

The patriotic quilts will go to Vets through the Cooties of the

Camden VFW. Come join us and see what we are all about! Last

month we welcomed two new ladies, and we enjoyed getting to

know them and hearing their ideas.

To date this year we have given out 99 quilts, and there are

several more ready to be handed out. Please don't hesitate to

ask for a quilt for someone in need.

Workshops:

• A motion was made, seconded, and approved by unanimous

vote to purchase a $50.00 gift certificate from a

restaurant to be given to our guest, Rico, who is speaking at

the June meeting, no fee. He has requested that non-

member active duty military not be charged a guest fee.

The Board agreed to this.

• Mary Dawn discussed upcoming workshops: June – Pumpkin

table runner; July – Improv quilt; September – Sandi

Blackwell’s Squaraginals. Mary Dawn would like help in

recruiting our newer quilters to sign up for our workshops.

She suggested that we invite them to bring their own

project and join in the June workshop. She will send out an

email to those people.

• August is Quilts of Valor night. Anyone who has worked on

the QOV is eligible to nominate a recipient. Four names were

suggested, to date three quilts are complete.

Retreat: There are two openings available. Mary Kokoszka and

her committee are working out details for this event at Camp

Pecometh in August. It is booked as a “free sew” event with a

Barclay Farms a half hour before the event and pull the

winning raffle quilt ticket to award the raffle quilt.

purchase prizes for members volunteering to work at raffle

sales events.

• Guild Meeting Ideas – Jeanne Boswell has donated a designer

handbag to HH. This will be raffled off the month of July at

The committee members are RoseAnn Battista, Shirley

Smith, Robin Aschenberg, Ellen Malenfant, and Kate Ruper.

RoseAnn will contact the sewing bees within our Guild to

encourage them to make theme baskets for the auction. She

will put an article in the newsletter asking for items to be

donated and contact new members to spark interest in this

event.

Old Business

Quilt Rack Sales – Ellen Malenfant took pictures and has listed

the racks on Craig’s List. If no interest, it was suggested we

contact other local guilds regarding the sale.

Liability Insurance Policy has been received and will be filed with

Secretary’s records.

New Business

2018 Raffle Quilt – Lucinder Mercier will be the chair of this

committee and the quilt will have a Lighthouse theme. The

including making $10 worth raffle tickets an add-on to the

dues. The Board agreed the raffle ticket sales should be

voluntary, but encouraged to sell by each member.

Refreshments –

• There was a discussion concerning eliminating refreshments

except for major events. As an alternative, water will be

available. It is becoming increasingly difficult to get

volunteers to bring food and oversee set-up/clean-up. An

email will be sent notifying members that this will be

discussed and voted on by the membership present at the

June meeting. Majority vote rules.

• The HH Guild will be purchasing the chicken for our August

QOV meeting. Members will be asked to bring side dishes.

QOV – Peg Gilson reported that we have three completed quilts

to be presented at the August meeting. She will put an article

in the newsletter encouraging members to work on blocks so

that we have more to present. Nominations should be given to

28th. The total in sales for May was $467.00.
