Palau de Congresos. One of the joys of doing this job is discovering talentthat one previously was unaware of - this monththere is a musical comedy group from Argentina onat the Palau de Congresos. Les Luthiers have beenaround since 1962, they are so named beause muchof their very funny act is based on their playing ofhome-made musical instruments (Luthier is thefrench word for a musical instrument maker). Someof the instruments are extremely sophisticated andthe members of the group are highly skilled singersand musicians and give high class performances ofintelligent humour - not to be missed - they areplaying from the 11th to the 18th October (except15th)
Plaza de TorosIf you missed Il Divo earlier in the year and havebeen kicking yourself ever since - this news mayhelp! The Ten Tenors (or TTT as they like to be called)are coming up from their home down under toundertake their first Spanish tour. They areappearing live at the Plaza De Toros for one nightonly on the 19th October. Like Il Divo they sing amixture of modern and classical. Their latest album'Here's to the Heroes features many works from JohnBarry - so you now know what to expect.
Films in English at the cinema in ValenciaNot the best of months for VOS in the Cinema. Wecan find only two new releases - The Angelina Jolie'sA Mighty Heart - it is about the search for Wall StreetJourna reporter Daniel Pearl after he is kidnapped inKarachi. at the Cine Cite Espai
The other is Boy Culture, a gay 'hustler' movie - andfrom the reviews, not a very good film at that. AtBabel
However, there may be better news for movie fans, the XXVIII Mostra de Valencia begins on 16thOctober. We say may, because at the time of goingto press there has yet to be a published programme.Judging on previous years though, there will be ahealthy smattering of films in English - check herefor updates!
There is also a children's section called La Mostretaand it all takes place at the ABC Park cinema thistime around.

So, I am off tolecciones in español. I think. Going to sign up at thelocal evening class I am asked by a sadly resignedsecretary if I can speak English. ‘Ye-es,’ I say, baffled by his query but unable to ask the questionneeded for the correct answer. more
Anita's Latest column - HEAT It looked warm andsunny out this morning, and I had had the fan onall night as I slept, so I got dressed in last year'ssilver thong sandals, my thinnest black skinnytrousers and a plain, loose, white tee shirt andhad a light chicken salad and some chilled waterfor lunch in my best efforts to remain refreshedand unruffled. Then I left the flat and stepped outon the street and boom! Right into the blast ofsomeone's hot air-dryer. more
