IntroductIon

Headway Dorset was founded in 1993 and was originally set up to provide services for people with acquired brain injuries.

Headway Dorset promotes a wider understanding of brain injury and provides information, advice and support to people with brain injuries, their families and carers. Having provided a range of services to individuals in the Dorset area, we have already built positive relationships with our NHS and Social Services colleagues and have developed support networks over the course of the years to meet the diverse needs of our clients.

We understand how difficult and complex it can be living and coping with the effects that a brain injury can have on the whole family. Our staff are supported by a team that have many years’ experience in helping clients with the difficulties they face and will help to achieve each person’s full potential in every aspect of their life.

At Headway Dorset Care our aim is to arrange individual rehabilitation, care and support packages for adults who have survived brain injury and to work together to help our clients return to a life that is meaningful to them.

Frequently Asked questions

How quickly can support be provided? Our clients have complex needs so it’s important for us to assess each person thoroughly so we can tailor the package to suit. We aim to have a support worker available within 48 hours of your initial enquiry being received. This will vary in certain cases, or can be delayed, if it suits your plans.

Will i still receive support on Public Holidays? We provide support 365 days per year, so if your scheduled visit falls on a Bank Holiday of any kind, we will ensure you still receive your support unless you tell us it is not required.

What if my support worker is ill or on holiday? If for any reason your regular support worker is on holiday or unwell, we will inform you immediately and find a suitable replacement to attend to your needs. You will always be informed who the person will be and when they should be arriving with you. Where possible we will find someone who has supported you in the past.

Will the agreed time of my visits be the same every day?Yes – in most cases your support is scheduled so it should be at the same time each day/week. You will be sent a roster by post or email for the week ahead. This details the time and the support worker you should expect. Sometimes small changes have to be made after the rosters are sent out but you will be spoken to about any changes we have to make. If timings are essential, please stress this in your initial assessment.

Frequently Asked questions

Frequently Asked questions

What is night care? There are two different types of night care: sleeping nights and waking nights. During waking nights, the support worker will be required to stay awake all night and carry out the tasks detailed in the care plan. During sleeping nights the staff are primarily there to give you peace of mind and to help should an emergency arise. Although they are able to assist you during the night, for example to help you to the bathroom, they should not be woken up on more than two occasions. If they are woken up more often to help you, you will be charged for a waking night. Sleeping night staff will need a private area with a bed/sofa bed to sleep in and use of the bathroom facilities.

What if i am unhappy with my carer? We do our utmost to deal with any concerns you have so please discuss any of your worries with us. If for any reason you are not satisfied then our full complaints procedure is set out in your service user guide.
