Not only is the Resurrection of Christ the foundation of Christian faith, it is also the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise when He said, “I have the power to lay down my life, and I have the power to take it up again (Jn 10:17- 18),” and “destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up (Jn 2:19-20).” Easter commemorates the Resurrection of Christ. The Resur- rection not only affirms Jesus' victory over death, it also reminds us to constantly return to the words and deeds of Jesus in the Gospel. We are called to live and proclaim Christ’s victory through our actions: by finding joy and beatitude in resisting the temptation to sin and to fight against the culture of hedonism, materialism, violence and death. The words from the Easter sequence capture this senti- ment beautifully: life and death are locked in wondrous struggle; the struggle endures, but ultimate victory is assured by Jesus Christ; life's leader, once dead, reigns as the living one. Christ has indeed risen from the dead and ascended into heaven, but His work of salvation continues in the Church. And what is so great about the Catholic Church is that it not only offers us the fullness of Christian faith through Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradi- tion, it also offers the fullness of the means to salvation through the complete profession of faith, the full sacramental life with the seven sacraments, and an ordained ministry that comes from an unbroken line of apostolic succession. We have so much to be thankful for. Let Easter remind us to do our part in continuing God’s work of salvation. An Easter Wish by Fr. Bill Hao

The Resurrection of the Lord April 5, 2015

St. Augustine once said that there is nothing great in believ-ing that Christ died because pagans and Jews also believe it; but what is great is believing that Jesus Christ rose from the dead. Not only is the Resurrection of Christ the foundation of Christian faith, it is also the fulfillment of Jesus’ promise when He said, “I have the power to lay down my life, and I have the power to take it up again (Jn 10:17-18),” and “destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up (Jn 2:19-20).” Easter commemorates the Resurrection of Christ. The Resur-rection not only affirms Jesus' victory over death, it also reminds us to constantly return to the words and deeds of Jesus in the Gospel. We are called to live and proclaim Christ’s victory through our actions: by finding joy and beatitude in resisting the temptation to sin and to fight against the culture of hedonism, materialism, violence and death. The words from the Easter sequence capture this senti-ment beautifully: life and death are locked in wondrous struggle; the struggle endures, but ultimate victory is assured by Jesus Christ; life's leader, once dead, reigns as the living one. Christ has indeed risen from the dead and ascended into heaven, but His work of salvation continues in the Church. And what is so great about the Catholic Church is that it not only offers us the fullness of Christian faith through Sacred Scripture and Sacred Tradi-tion, it also offers the fullness of the means to salvation through the complete profession of faith, the full sacramental life with the seven sacraments, and an ordained ministry that comes from an unbroken line of apostolic succession. 20TH ANNUAL EUCHARISTIC CONGRESS

Every year in June, the Archdiocese of Atlanta brings Catholics together at the

Eucharistic Congress - a spiritual, multicultural conference celebration of Jesus truly

present in the Blessed Sacrament.

Archbishop Wilton Gregory has chosen “I Will Be With You Always" as the theme to

celebrate this year's 20th Anniversary of the Eucharistic Congress, to be held June 5-6.

A promise kept most completely in the Holy Eucharist.

The Archdiocese is currently looking for volunteers to serve in various capacities at

this year’s Congress. Visit http://congress.archatl.com to see how you can help!

In February our Middle School students

participated in The Daffodil Project by

planting almost 500 daffodil bulbs in

remembrance of child victims of the

Holocaust. In March, those daffodils were

in full bloom and provided a beautiful

backdrop for a visit from Erin Beacham,

Education Project Director with the Anti-

Defamation League, and Nida Mudd, an

advocate for the Daffodil Project. Mrs.

Mudd also brought along her daughter,

a 3rd grader at St. Jude the Apostle, who

was the influence behind the daffodil

garden planted at her school. Below is

the sign placed in our garden, designating

the flowers as “part of the worldwide

FORMACION EN LA FE

ACTIVITY OF THE WEEK

ACTIVIDAD DE LA SEMANA

Elija una de las siguientes actividades

para seguir reflexionando sobre las

lecturas del domingo:

Decoren una vela de Pascua de

Resurrección para reflejar la

resurrección de Jesús. Dejen que todos

contribuyan en algo. Usen la vela como

un centro mes y enciéndanla cada

noche durante el tiempo de Pascua de

Resurrección.

En familia, hagan un pan de Pascua.

Antes de ponerlo en el horno, den

gracias a Dios por enviar a Jesús y por

todas las bendiciones que ha concedido

a su familia.

En familia, pinten huevos de Pascua de

Resurrección y comenten su

significado. Expliquen que un huevo es

duro como una tumba, pero también da

nueva vida. Mientras hacen la

actividad, hablen de las cosas nuevas

que hay en sus vidas.

Choose one of the following activities as

a way to further reflect on the Sunday

readings:

Decorate an Easter candle to reflect the

resurrection of Jesus. Let everyone

contribute in some way. Use the candle

as a table centerpiece and light it every

evening during the Easter Season.

Make Easter bread together as a family.

Before placing the bread in the oven,

thank God for sending Jesus and for all

of the blessings bestowed on your

family.

Color Easter eggs as a family and

discuss their meaning. Point out that an

egg is hard like a tomb but it also gives

new life. As the activity is in process,

discuss what is new in your life.

THE RESURRECTION OF THE LORD

Acts 10:34a, 37–43; Colossians 3:1–4; John 20:1–9 As we sing alleluias once again, as we hear of Christ’s rising from the dead, it

seems that our lives have pointed to this day. Indeed, our lives are focused on

the Resurrection. This is the major feast day of the Church, for Christ came to

die and rise from the dead for us. From that dying and rising, we have new

life in Christ; we are united with God.

Our churches, then, are decorated in gold and white, colors of new life and

rejoicing. In the Responsorial Psalm, we sing, “This is the day the Lord has

made; let us rejoice and be glad,” for our lives are centered on this day. It is

the day that provides hope for us. We are not dead because of our sin but

forgiven because of God’s mercy.

In the reading from the Acts of the Apostles, St. Peter summarizes what he

has witnessed. Jesus was anointed, hanged, raised from the dead, and made

visible to his followers. These followers preach, continuing to tell the story of

the one who forgives sins. It is clear from this reading that Peter’s life has

been changed. He now traces events and sees their culmination in the

Resurrection. What meaning does the Resurrection have in your life? Are you

open to its giving you a new perspective? Do you revolve your life around

Easter?

LISTEN: “Oh, Great Love of God” by David Crowder

REFLECT: Our Lord is not primarily a teacher, He is a Savior. That’s the meaning of the word “Jesus”: He will save us from our sins.

Suppose we took a chalice as an example of what He did for us. Suppose the chalice were taken from the altar and made into a mug and delivered over to unholy uses, its shape and contour completely changed. Then it was found. How could it ever be restored again to the altar?

Well first of all, we would have to put it into a furnace, burn off the old shape and form, and hammer it again into the pattern of a chalice. Them we would bless it and restore it to the altar.

That is what God did with the human nature. He took this chalice of humanity, threw it into the fires of Calvary, where He was scourged and beaten, and then He was restored to a new shape on Easter and became the new creation. This is what He did with the pattern of human nature.

PRAY: God, You came, You died, and You rose from the dead – all to save my soul. Your resurrection means I do not have to experience death; my last breath in this world is my entrance into the next. With this knowledge, I ask for the grace to live my life looking forward to eternity. Help me to make every decision with You in mind. Thank you for making me a new creation. I am changed, I am yours, and I am grateful. Amen.

DO: Today on Easter, thank God for all the things you’re grateful for. Make every decision today (and everyday) with the knowledge that you will rise on the last day because Christ conquered death – He is risen.

Just celebrate today. This is our day as Christians and Catholics.

April 5: Did you know you can donate Real Estate to

The Catholic Foundation of North Georgia to benefit the parish?

The Foundation follows a due diligence process to determine if the property can be accepted.

Some people have left their home to the parish in their will and some have donated their home or

property during their life. You will get a nice tax deduction when you donate real estate. When

the Foundation sells the property , it invests the proceeds into the parish endowment fund. If you

would like more details on this type of charitable gift, please contact Diane Duquette, Director of

Gift Planning at the Catholic Foundation of North Georgia: 404-497-9440 or email

[email protected]. Visit the planned giving page on the Foundation website: www.cfnga.org for

additional methods of making donations to the parish from your assets.

SECOND COLLECTIONS

Our Easter Sunday Second Collection will benefit our

Archdiocesan Seminarians.

Next weekend our second collection is for the Saint Vincent

de Paul Society in the Archdiocese of Atlanta. The Society

serves in many communities and neighborhoods throughout

the Archdiocese, where its members consistently reach out

with compassion and practical assistance to people living in

extreme hardship. Our gifts to this collection go directly to

provide emergency shelter, food, and clothing. We can, like

Christ, serve the poorest of the poor who are among us

through our wholehearted support of the Saint Vincent de

Paul Society.

LOVE OTHERS Jesus tells us we must love others as we love ourselves. For some, this means we have to

accept ourselves as we are in order to love others well; for some, we need to focus on others

as deserving of our love, even those we do not know and those we consider less important

(God doesn’t see them that way!)

Echó a correr, llegó a

"He resucitado y estoy

siempre contigo".
