His divine power has given us everything we need for life and Godliness through our knowledge of Him who
called us by His own glory and goodness.
2 Peter 1:3
But there were also false prophets among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you. They will
secretly introduce destructive heresies, even denying the sovereign Lord Who bought them – bringing swift
destruction on themselves. Many will follow their shameful ways and will bring the way of truth into
disrepute. In their greed, these teachers will exploit you with stories they have made up.
2 Peter 2:1-3a
Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping. For if God
did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be held for
judgment; if He did not spare the ancient world when He brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a preacher of righteousness, and seven others;
2 Peter 2:3b-5
If He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of
what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if He rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his
righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard);
2 Peter 2:6-8
If this is so, then the Lord knows how to rescue godly men from trials and to hold the unrighteous for the day of
judgment, while continuing their punishment.
2 Peter 2:9
1. He came down from heaven

For I have come down from heaven not to do my will, but to do the will of him who sent me.
John 6:38
1. He came down from heaven2. He was God
Jesus’ Claims
[Jesus said] “I and the Father are one.“ Again the Jews picked up stones to stone him, but Jesus said to them, "I
have shown you many great miracles from the Father. For which of these do you stone me?” "We are not
stoning you for any of these," replied the Jews, "but for blasphemy, because you, a mere man, claim to be God."
John 10:30-33
1. He came down from heaven2. He was God3. He was without sin
Jesus’ Claims
Can any of you prove me guilty of sin?If I am telling the truth, why don't you believe me?
John 8:46
1. He came down from heaven2. He was God3. He was without sin4. He could forgive sin
Jesus’ Claims
Have mercy on me, O God … Against You, You only, have I sinned and done what is evil in your sight, so that you are proved right when you speak and justified when
you judge.
Psalm 51:1, 4
When Jesus saw their faith, He said to the paralytic, "Son, your sins are forgiven.“
Mark 2:5
1. He came down from heaven2. He was God3. He was without sin4. He could forgive sin5. He was the only way to Heaven
Jesus’ Claims
“I am the way, the truth, and the life.No one comes to the Father but through Me.”
John 14:6
1. He came down from heaven2. He was God3. He was without sin4. He could forgive sin5. He was the only way to Heaven6. He would conquer death
Jesus’ Claims
Now as Jesus was going up to Jerusalem, He took the twelve disciples aside and said to them, "We are going
up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn Him to death and will turn Him over to the
Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day He will be raised to life!“
Matthew 20:17-19
1. He came down from heaven2. He was God3. He was without sin4. He could forgive sin5. He was the only way to Heaven6. He would conquer death
Jesus’ Claims
But I am afraid that just as Eve was deceived by the serpent's cunning, your minds may somehow be led
astray from your sincere and pure devotion to Christ. For if someone comes to you and preaches a Jesus other
than the Jesus we preached, or if you receive a different spirit from the one you received, or a different gospel from the one you accepted, you put up with it easily
enough. I may not be a trained speaker, but I do have knowledge.
2 Corinthians 11:3-4, 6a
For such men are false apostles, deceitful workmen, masquerading as apostles of Christ. And no wonder, for Satan himself masquerades as an angel of light. It is not surprising, then, if his servants masquerade as servants
of righteousness. Their end will be what their actions deserve.
2 Corinthians 11:13-15
1. Impose laws against it2. Send teachers to corrupt it

Angels
God did not spare angels when they sinned, but sent them to hell, putting them into gloomy dungeons to be
held for judgment…
2 Peter 2:4
You were anointed as a guardian cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones. You were blameless in
your ways from the day you were created till wickedness was found in you. You were filled with violence, and you
sinned. So I drove you in disgrace from the mount of God, and I expelled you from among the fiery stones. Your heart became proud on account of your beauty,
and you corrupted your wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth.
Ezekiel 28:14-17
How you have fallen from heaven, O morning star, son of the dawn! You have been cast down to the earth, you who once laid low the nations! You said in your heart, "I will ascend to heaven; I will raise my throne above the
stars of God; I will sit enthroned on the mount of assembly, on the utmost heights of the sacred mountain.
I will ascend above the tops of the clouds; I will make myself like the Most High.” But you are brought down to
the grave, to the depths of the pit.
Isaiah 14:12-15
Angels
What can we learn?
God punishes sin, regardless of who commits it.
Noah
He did not spare the ancient world when He brought the flood on its ungodly people, but protected Noah, a
preacher of righteousness, and seven others;
2 Peter 2:5
The Lord saw how great man's wickedness on the earth had become, and that every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil all the time. The Lord was grieved that He had made man on the earth, and His heart was filled with pain. So the Lord said, "I will wipe mankind, whom I have created, from the face of the earth—men
and animals, and creatures that move along the ground, and birds of the air—for I am grieved that I have made them." But Noah found favor in the eyes of the Lord.
Genesis 6:5-8
Noah was a righteous man, blameless among the people of his time, and he walked with God.
Genesis 6:9
The Lord then said to Noah, "Go into the ark, you and your whole family, because I have found you righteous in
this generation. Take with you seven of every kind of clean animal, and two of every kind of unclean animal, a male and its mate, and also seven of every kind of bird,
to keep their various kinds alive throughout the earth. Seven days from now I will send rain on the earth for forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe from the
face of the earth every living creature I have made.” And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him.
Genesis 7:1-5
And Noah and his sons and his wife and his sons' wives entered the ark to escape the waters of the flood. Pairs
of clean and unclean animals, of birds and of all creatures that move along the ground, male and female,
came to Noah and entered the ark, as God had commanded Noah. And after the seven days the
floodwaters came on the earth.
Genesis 6:7-10
And Noah did all that the Lord commanded him.
Genesis 7:5
Noah
What can we learn?
God punishes sin, but sometimes we have to wait.
Lot
If He condemned the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah by burning them to ashes, and made them an example of
what is going to happen to the ungodly; and if He rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his
righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard);
2 Peter 2:6-8
• Sodom & Gomorrah were incredibly wicked• Lot and his family lived there• Even though they were surrounded by absolute sin,
they remained faithful to God
• They were the only ones in entire city who were faithful
• God destroyed both cities and their inhabitants, but rescued Lot and his family
The Story of Lot – Genesis 16-18
Lot
What can we learn?
God punishes sin, but rescues the righteous.
He rescued Lot, a righteous man, who was distressed by the filthy lives of lawless men (for that righteous man, living among them day after day, was tormented in his
righteous soul by the lawless deeds he saw and heard);

God is just.
Us
What can we learn?
God’s past faithfulness can give us faith for the future.
Three Questions
1. Am I righteous and blameless?2. Does others’ sin torment me?3. Am I consistently reminding myself of God’s past
faithfulness?
