Grade Level Kindergarten
Lesson Title Learning to Read with Technology
Standards
CCSS.ELARF.K.3a Phonics and Word Definition Demonstrate basic knowledge of onetoone lettersound correspondences by producing the primary sound or many of the most frequent sounds for each consonant.
CCSS.ELARF.K.1d Print Concepts Recognize and name all upper and lowercase letters of the alphabet.
Technology Competencies ● Identify computer parts ● Turn computer on and off correctly ● Use output devices (monitor) ● Use input devices (mouse, keyboard) ● Adjust volume control on devices ● Use developmentally appropriate multimedia resources (such as Reading Rainbow, Starfall.com)
Purpose
Students will access a website (such as Starfall.com) to use the multimedia tool to learn reading. This will also give teachers a chance to introduce basic parts of the computer.

KINDERGARTEN (Lesson 3) Supplies
● Computer with sound & Internet access.
Direct Instruction
1. Teacher will label the parts of the computer (monitor, keyboard, mouse). 2. Teacher will introduce the icons on the computer & show students how to get on the reading program
using the SMARTboard. 3. Teacher will show students how to adjust the volume.
Guided Practice
1. Students will turn on their computers place the mouse over the icon being used. 2. Students will doubleclick on the icon and teacher will show students how to navigate on the website
(such as Starfall.com). 3. Students will put on their headphones and adjust volume with teacher help.
Differentiated Instruction
EL Teacher will aid students in navigating to the skill he/she needs to practice. GATE Students will access the reading portion of the website when they have masters letter naming skills.
Assessment
Students will access a website to identify letters and sounds. In addition students will match pictures with the beginning letter or sound by using their mouse and keyboarding skills.
